hey guys whats this dash light mean?

It's the first red light thats under the L on the pressure gage. It almost looks like a building with pillars going up and down..."best way I can describe it". Reason I'm asking is it flashed on for a few seconds when I was at about 7g in 3rd gear. Thanks

Its the coolant level warning light. I'm no expert but I don't think its a big deal as long as you check the level. You will need to provide more info about what may have caused it to come on.

It's a bird cage. It means that you sucked up a bird into your intake and now it's caged inside the engine.

I have sucked up 3 birds this year. One of them's legs were hanging down at the back of the bottom of the front.

An owner's manual is a wonderful thing [to Read].

As cited engine coolant level warning light

Make sure you check the level via the outside of the expansion tank (caution - don't remove the cap if hot). Once cool, and if in fact low, easiest to fill with pre-mix coolant like Prestone 50/50 (anti-freeze and distilled water).

Related your radiator fans may not be cycling on properly or your radiator may be 'air bound' and is therefore not circulating properly. The water pump could also be going bad.

If very intermittent it could simply be a faulty coolant level switch, which has been problematic for some.

edit: the 'building with pillars' is a standard symbol meant to look like an old style radiator.

It means something's wrong with your car...that's the general design of warning lights.

Oh, and it IS the coolant level. Just check it and make sure it's good. Easy fix. NEXT...

it means shift into reverse quickly! the engine is spinning in a certain direction to make you go forward by putting it into reverse it spins in reverse essentially cooling it down always works and its an easy fix

edit:please dont take that seriously

rx8 manual, in case you didn't get one:

http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0...thkey=CPPJy_oH

Mine didn't come with one, so i was a little puzzled by the lights until i found it. but it wasn't long until hunted it down. The one that threw me the most was the tire pressure warning.

I've noticed the "malfunctioning coolant sensor" thread seeing a lot of activity as of late...

I always thought it was a Rolls Royce warning.

It cannot be coolant level. Nearly all the posts about it going on say that the coolant level is fine.

Actually, only a handful answered it for you. The rest came up with complete bullshit for a laugh at your expense. You're a good sport, though...

The first reply was a good answer. All of us class clown wannabes showed up too late to ruin things. And the only offensive post came 20 replies into the thread.

BTW - the part about it coming on a 7k...that seems to be common. I've gotten false warnings at high rpm, and a number of others have reported the same. Had it do that a few days ago, and AFAIK my tank is over filled.

The coolant level warning sensor mechanism has a defect to where it deforms and cause the reading. Damn.. tough crowd... People need to be nicer to noobs. That icon is dumb this person that came up with it need to join the 5-20w hari kari (bad corporate decisions) club. I worked on a lot of cars and even I didn't understand what that light was it looked like my Crown Royal level was low or something.
