Don't understand why you guys whine about the 8 in snow. Look at this:

You see that? That's me in a RallyX race two weeks ago.

And what am I driving? An RX-8. Gravel, pure snow, snow on ice, powdered snow, whatever. The RX-8 took it all.

So why do you guys whine? Learn to drive and keep the momentum going.

it's hard to keep the momentum going when you're parked.

Parked I can understand. We still get a lot of whining about how bad the car is in the snow.

Bad? Sorry. Last time there was a snowstorm in town, I went out and actually practiced driving. I overtook 4x4s and averaged 40mph. Even overtook a Nissan Sentra sideways.

The RX-8's twitchy in snow, but it's not bad in any way. Learn to drive.

I'm pretty happy with how the 8 drives in snow. You were obviously in an extreme situation. But generally, I'm finding it ok. It's my first winter with the 8 and RWD in general, but it's basically okay. Better than some of my other cars. I'm really not too worried about driving in snow/ice in the city at reasonable speeds and I'm pretty careful (although it IS tough to not push it). I just hate highway driving in winter.

^^+ 4 snow tires is the only way. On the stock summer tires you're asking for trouble. It is drivable with snow tires.

I've got Dunlop Wintersport M3's on and they let me drive through just about any weather condition we can have here in Vancouver without a sweat. Driving in the snow in the 8 is actually a lot of fun.

^ +1 for blizzaks. They've pulled me through everything: steep iced-over inclines up out of a parking lot, half-foot non-plowed streets, and when stopped uphill with traffic behind you. DSC off, easy on the throttle, know the limits of the car, and it's all good.
