I had my transmission fluid changed in my 2009 RX-8 last weekend at a local shop. I'm 2+ hours away from home and found transmission fluid leaking out. We looked underneath the car and the fill bolt is missing!

I called two Mazda dealers and they do not stock the fill bolts nor do they know the size. It will take a week to ship the part and the car is 2+ hours away from my house.

Does anyone know the size of the transmission fill plug for the 2009+ RX-8?

If I can find out the size/thread of the bolt, I can hopefully find a substitute at a local hardware store.

 

What? Why are you asking us? Call those jackasses at the "local shop" that changed your transmission fluid, and tell them you want them to pay for your car to get towed back home (flatbed), and if they can't find the damn part, they're paying for a rental car until it comes in.

Hold those a-holes accountable. If they didn't tighten up the bolt and it backed out, they figure out what the hell to do.

 

That is messed up. The shop should be accountable if damages occur on your transmission.

 

ask them to fix it for you and provide a rental car while waiting for parts.
how can someone forget to put the plug back in before giving the car back?
in fact they should pay for any damage due to lack of transmission fluid.
