Help! Mechanic says I am missing...

So I heard a noise right and I took it to get checked out and the mechanic laughed at me and said "Son, you are missing your pistons". Im like ok what do i need those for and he says "with out them your car cant move anywhere". I told him I drive it here didnt I! "Well" he said, "the transmission provides enough torque to move forword like you had pistons, but not much. Your noise is the transmission doing all the work because you dont have pistons". Soo confused I asked him how this happend and he said that all cars have pistons, the dealer just sold me a lemon. So its in the shop now getting 5 pistons put in.

Thank god I caught that mistake. Dealer goona pay for that... letting me drive on transmission power... shesh.

dude, your mechanic is taking you for a ride.

5 pistons is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

You want them in sets of two. Go for 4, or 6.

Remember, 5 is an odd number.

If he wanted an odd car, he'd have gotten a chevy or a volvo. even number of pistons for the rx-8.

No actualy THIS IS NOT A JOKE POST. I repeat: THIS IS NOT... A JOKE POST.

I called his shop today and asked him why I should have 5 and not an even number as you guys suggested. He said because most foren cars do not folow american standards which is why they sound different. Mazda uses 5, farrari (ewe spelling) uses 9, porshe 5 *SC'ed, and he named a few others. I asked him if this has happened before (emplying has mazda forgot to put in the pistons) and he said yes which is why he doesnt work on mazda usualy. Since business is slow, he gave me a discount of $100 and agreed to help me out. He is even checking to make sure there was no transmission torque loss due to the stress I put on it. He said its possible I could have damaged the ablility to shift into 6th but will know after he installed all 5 pistons and connected them to the mid-link. (ps. what is a mid-link?). So anyway, after parts and labor (parts being free from mazda I hope) it comes to $499.95 + tax, which isnt bad. I dont get a loner though so im stuck on the bus.

Since I know you guys will ask, I got the brand name of Piston hes using
5 Pistons + Installation $499.95 DenGran Quality Mazda Parts.
Mid-Link Connection $29.95
New Cables + Installation $79.95
Discount $100

i'm gonna call BS, if a real mechanic said the words "the transmission provides enough torque to move forword" then my 12 year old cousin understands engines better.

zeblien, if this is seriously not a joke post, you need to get your car from that mechanic's shop ASAP. The RX8's Renesis engine is pistonless. Your mechanic is trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Even in a regular engine with pistons, if they aren't there, the engine certainly won't start!

This post is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Tell your mechanic that you wanna see the parts he'll be installing. Or better yet, observe him doing the work. Stand next to him in his work bay and see where he puts those "pistons".

after reading this post.

I've been thinking to ask my dealer to take out those gay triangle thinggy out, and pul some piston in.

I can pay whoever the price of the car if they can stick some piston into the Renesis and usable.
