Back to the question before...can you fit a third or fourth person easily in the back seats? Even though it is 4 doors, it seems a little tight to get in. Any idea if an overweight person can fit (nothing against them)?

overweight might find it cramped due tight seats, but as for height i had a couple six foot plus people in the back without a prob.

I can't believe that 16,17 and even 20 year olds are getting RX-8's from Mommy and Daddy.
I worked my A-- off for years to be able to buy this car. I don't know about the rest of the
working class. But this is a tragedy. The poor car will not survive the inexperianced kids.
It will suffer, under the harsh hands of a rookie driver.
It hurts just to think about it.
Have your parents thought about "Driving Lessons" ?
Would not be a bad idea. a little knowledge never hurt anyone.
In the mean time buy a Toyota Corolla (used) it's disposable and have fun.

Trust me...I have to purchase this car. My mother also needs a car so I will pay for half of the bill and she will cover the other half, so I have to work to pay it off too. I am also putting a $2,000 down payment and she is going to put another $2,000 down payment. I also am saving $4,000 for my brother working with a Mazda dealership. So I am hoping with all those payments, the car will be about $20,000. She said I could take it with me to college since we have a 2006 Chevy Suburban here.

I also have taken driving lessons (I took 10 classes, each 3 hours long with 6 hours of driving).

hey, i'm 25 and i worked my ass off for the car as well, and someone this young gettin the same car will of course uprise jealous feelings in the older members of this forum, but he doesn't sound cocky about it really. everyone grows up differently, some of us more privileged than others, but it doesn't mean he or his parents are bad people. i say treat her nice, be careful, and enjoy life.

Why burden yourself with a car payment/poor gas mileage while going to school. I'm assuming you will be working since you said you will be paying for half. I'm just asking here not preaching. Having a car paid for and devoting more time to school and less to working equates to better grades and more free time to spend with your friends.

You know yourself better than these people do. If you can handle being in a car with power and NOT using it, go for it, get the 8.

I was raised driving, modding, and talking about cars with my father and two older brothers 24-7. Id say I was a better driver at 16 than most 20 y.o. I had been in the car with. Im now 20 y.o. myself and have never gotten a ticket or been into an accident.

My point is this, no one can tell you if this car is too much machine for you or not, only you know that. Its all about how conservative you are behind the wheel, and knowing not to push your limits (untill you know what they are after a few years of street time). If you truley feel like you can handle an 8, go for it, its a great car that will be fast enough for you untill you can pay for your own car.
If you have any doubts though, that it might get you into trouble, do the smart thing, get a more novice car and work your way up.
My first car was a 1994 BMW 525, by no means a sports car. I drove it like it was an M5 though, and learned my cars limits and most importantly my limits as a driver. By the time I got my 8 I was fully confident behind the wheel, knew how to handle a rear-wheel-drive car at its limits, and was grown up enough to not tryn race every civic that lines up with me.

Know thy self. Know thy car. Thank thy parents a million times.

If your brother works at a mazda dealership?? :rollingla You shouldn't have to come here for info!!! How many rx8's has he sold I think............0  The car is warranty for 50000 miles. :slap: I think he was thinking the tires, not the engine.:banghead:

I know some kid older than you who was simply cruising (romping the shit out of it) in his new wrx, hit a tree, died, and the car burnt to the ground.
People die all the time becuase they are dickin around in cars... its fun but dangerous (isn't it always).
I wrecked when i was 16 (pretty rough) becuase I was dicking around in an a4 and I don't want you to do the same thing. Honestly don't be terrifyed of the car... but if you're going to open it up or try and get the back out in a corner.. do it when theres NO traffic around. A car can sneak up out of NOWHERE. Plus.. i guarentee the first time you slide around a corner on an always deserted street at a deserted hour a car will pop out of nowhere and you'll hit it. Anything can happen and I don't want you to wreck your new 8. Car crashes are an absolutly terrible feeling (few things are worse) especially if someone gets hurt. Just keep your head screwed on and have as much fun as you can while keeping the car, yourself, and everyone around you in one piece.

edit: sadly though... you won't fully understand until you wreck a car.

Elite-Eight 05-22-2006 09:14 PM

I know what you mean by being in a wreck... So far I have been in 3 of them but I was not the driver. And obviously the driver will feel worse becuase it was possibly his fault, or if he would have reacted in time, he could have avoided it. So, I somewhat know the feeling of a wreck but defeniatly not as much as the driver. The only thing considering me to get a different car is gas. I don't mind getting Premium gas, but the low mileage... :wallbash:

Anyways...this is me in my new RX-8 (which I may get Saturday)
