You guys are making me sick. I'm in a similar situation to SP767 and you are not making this easy. My TSX is just over a year old and I do love the car. It is the best mix of sport and luxury I've found - but a bit weak on power (200 HP and 3200 lb). Three weeks ago, I had a Saturday free so I decided to cruise car lots. I test drove the G35 sedan and coupe, 9-3, TL, 325i, the 8 and MS Miata. I've been thinking about the 8 ever since. I've been back to the dealer twice and have almost convinced myself to wait for the '05s (see my thread '05 Colors and Mazdaspeed). I have been fairly active on the TSX.com forum and reading your posts show how much more passionate the RX-8 owners are from the TSX owners - who are a failry passionate crowd. It brings back fond memories of my old RX-7s so I understand what you mean when you say "one with the car." Something I haven't felt in a long time. I was considering the 8 when I bought the TSX, but backed out of a deal on the 8 before I ever drove one because I had a bad feeling from Mazda derating the HP numbers. Even though I didn't get an 8, Mazda sent me the RX-8 travel mug, thermos and book. I even got the buy-back offer. With most bugs now fixed, I am having a hard time not thinking about getting it - to the point where it has cost me sleep. Damn I hate Mazda for what they've done to me and you guys are just making it worse. Waiting for an '05 is getting harder by the hour.

(Chanting loudly) 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8....
Yikes!
Do what i did....just give in and get one! You'll feel better!
Guys, I got a 2004, Brilliant silver, GT pkg, appearance pkg, 6spd.
Couldn't be happier.
Now, i just need to hang out and figure what i've done to myself!
I still can't believe that i have a sports car! :p
My Audi is just sitting in the garage next to the RX8...looking as dull as a rock.

Buying you 8 is just the first step in your addiction. Now comes part 2. You will want to get behind the wheel every chance you get - and every chance you don't get.
Then you start thingking , "Hmm..mmm, how can I get this puppy to go faster?"
You start dreaming about aftermarket turbos, engine mapping modification, cold air intakes, etc.......
I'll tell you, I've always left my cars stock. I'm a purist - if it don't come from the factory that way, I don't want it. But this time around............maybe.

With the 8... I dunno... I just don't have that urge. It's almost like it'd be blasphemy to mess with it, lol. It's just so good, so well-balanced. After reading through all the behind-the-scenes literature of how much design effort Mazda put in to get the car perfect (centering the weight, suspension geometries, damper rates, etc.), I just feel *guilty* replacing any of it

When I had my Eclipse, I made a list of all the things I wanted "fixed" or modified. I eventually realized that some of my criticisms were of it's basic design, things that could be compensated for to some degree, but never really solved. That list grew, and eventually turned into a specification for what I considered to be the "perfect car" for me.
The RX-8 matched those expectations very well. So in a way, it *is* my perfect, modded car
So True!
I spent a fortune trying to make my lowly 4cyl Audi something that it couldn't be. Now, the S4, it comes from the factory with bits a driver wants. But the 170hp A4 is baseline for soccer moms. And it's over $30k just to start! German hardware is sooo expensive! The guys at http://www.audiworld.com are spending more than what we spent just to get entry fee, then they are spending all their savings trying to get the car where we started with less money!!
I did the math, and realized I was crazy what i was spending. I drove the car (RX8) and realized this is where I was trying to get.
Now, I have Peace of mind.
NO, i'm not modding...this car does not require it.

I love the 8 as is, but I can't help but think about what a 2950lb car would be like with 300hp and a torque curve flat as a pancake.
I tell you it wouldn't take very much to push this car into supercar territory. We just need to get sub 5 0-60 times. It already stops 60-0 in 113ft. Slaloms at 64.8mph. Corners at .9g....well you get the idea. Maybe the next iteration of the car will get us there.
