Help with color

Hi,

I have a deadlock: will it be velocity red or titanium gray? I like the red, but don't want to be a pig magnet....

RED!!! You will not be a pig magnet unless you are breaking the law. To quote someone else: "I once took my annual driver training class for a speeding ticket. The instructor was a CHP officer. He said he'd heard the rumor about car colors, he asked, "Do I look like a bull?" He said "You people on the average break the law three times every five minutes, and you do it right in front of us!" Color does not play into it.

Talk to those that drive those plain silver ones. I'll bet they get just as many tickets. I now have 20K on my red RX-8 and no tickets. AND, I do not drive slow. I do have a radar detector and I do check on ramps as well as my rearview mirror. I travel with my sunroof pulled back if I need to check for planes. Bottom line, if you are watching when you are running, you'll probably be ok. If you are oblivious, you're next."

get the color that you like, don't drive like a moron, stay within 5-10mph of the speed limit and you won't have a problem.

by nature of the car itself (sport), police will pay a little more attention to you, but don't do anything that would cause them to come admire it from a closer vantage.

That proves the danger of statistics. This entire argument was taken from a study of all car types and colors. The problem is, they related the study only to the car color, not the car type. The concentration of red colored sports cars is MUCH higher than the concentration of red colored Ford Tempos, Saturn SL1s, and Geo Prizms. If the study had been broken down by car type instead of color, you would have seen sports cars as the most likely type of car to be involved in a movement violation (which would of course make complete sense of course).

In short, color has an impact on car visiblity, but until a study is done that breaks down car type, car color, and total percentage of that car color in that car type on the road today, the percentage of owners with radar detectors, the risk preferences of the individuals who own/operate the vehicle, and the age demographic makeup of the market, then you won't get an accurate representation of the true impact color has on the probability of receiving a movement violation.

Get the color you want and are able to keep clean.

The red is metallic and not fire truck red, so not as loud. If you are concerned with attracting attention, gray or green is the way to go. There are issues with the paint jobs on all RX8s - we seem to get a lot of rock chips up front.

Like FTR said - go with what you want.

Grey is nice (and less common than silver, thank god) but I guess my name will tell you which color I like. The gold flecks that burst forth in the sunlight are truly outstanding.

The VR is a truly awesome color and goes well with the body style of the Rx8. I say the lighter color Rx8s show more curves on the body than the darker colors. Although black was my second choice!

Go with the red. I've had mine for about two months and absolutely love it because the gold mica flakes look incredible in the sun. Go with the color you like the most and don't base it on ticket potential.

I have a VR. ALWAYS get compliments on it.

My neighbor is a policeman - total bull on the red=pig magnet.

My wife is an insurance agent - total bull on the red=high insurance.

Red>Silver

I agree choose the color you like. I drive a silver and the second day I brought it home I had it out on the highway, driving between 5 & 10 mph over like every one else, I saw the sherriff turn south at a light as I was going north and when I checked my rearview mirror I watched him make a U-turn. I wasn't doing anything different than anyone else and when I turned off about 5 miles later he was right on my tail. I think he just wanted a closer look, but my point is color don't matter.

Buy what you want and know that you will be watched by police and every other car lover.

Enjoy

Red gets my vote! Mine was originally Velocity Red with red/black leather which is a nice combo.

I am partial to Titanium Grey- classy and cool and does not show dirt! I think Red looks juvenile. Just my opinion...

one thing is sure, you will never regret Grey.

VRed for me! And saying that red is a cop magnet is certainly a myth.

Regardless of car color, every tkt I have ever received, I was breaking the law.

I believe what others are saying and get the color you truly like. I for one opted for Red then changed my mind once I found out it had metallic flake. I would rather have a sports car that had a flat red than a metallic red but that is purely my opinion. Others here love the way it looks in the sun and more power to them. It's all a matter of preference.

Just think about a beautiful day-your 8 is calling for you to bathe her-you start to slowly massage the soapy effervescence onto her skin-what color do you imagine her skin to be? What appeals to you when you think about washing her-waxing/polishing her-and when you get out in the parking lot to go into a store and look back-what color do you want to see?
