i know the battery is not dead because the radio works and i tried jump starting it and it would not start either.

i had the same situation as you 3 weeks ago. while driving, my car just died on me. pushed the car to to shoulder, tried starting it up. No luck.
Radio , dash console showed up also. Had someone jump my car, drove the car down the street, and it died again. So pushed the car to shoulder again. Popped the hood, felt if the my alternator was cold, it wasn’t. taken the battery out and walked a mile or so to autozone, had them tested my battery. Showed up that my battery was dead. Popped a new one in, started up. Had my alternator tested and starter checked, showed its still good. So maybe you should have your battery checked also. even though my starter showed good, i like to change out things at the same time. so changed out my starter this passweekend.

i know its my starter because its not the battery, my battery is fine, because the radio works, lights ect.
when i try to start it, at first it would try to crank, now its just "click click click"
my engine is definitely not flooded because i dont turn on my car to move it, i usually drive a minimum of 20 miles a day so im pretty sure thats out of the question

i am just saying, have your battery checked also. because it was my battery that was at fault, when i was cursing at my starter. . but hey , its your car, i was just sharing the example i had 3 weeks ago. also starter showed perfect when i had them test it at mazda. i just changed it out, because i like starters and battery changed close to the same time. any how gl to you.

but teh same can be said about a bad battery. i had to wait 15mins before i can even get my car started with a jump. . because the first 3 tries wouldnt work. so the person in the truck was nice of enough to let the jumper cables stayed connected for 15mins, so that i can get a charge, then iw as able to crank it. any ways, best to get both checked, but that is just me. any how gl tc, ih ope your problem gets resolved.

Sounds like battery to me. Just because you can run the radio doesn't mean it has enough power to start the car. First it cranked and now it's clicking means you used the little juice it had left. But then a jump should work... still, I'm going with battery.

cool, glad your problem has been resolved. as for the carbon buildup, there is a DIY here in the DIY section. which probably only cost you about 30 bucks.

Yah, you just learned a couple valuable lessons, and like most newbs, you had to pay for them in cash.
It was obviously a bad battery, and you could have bought one and changed it yourself for $60 instead of whatever you ended up paying.
But, luckily, you didn't get didn't get taken for a BIG ride. If you got out for two or three hundred dollars, forget it, and do better next time.
