the "hello" post

Hello RX-8 friends!

I am Chris and just brought home a 2009 Brilliant Black R3 last saturday. I'm excited to get to know the car better! I have a 240sx with completely built suspension (and i mean completely) for drift/gymkhana, but after only 200 miles i'm starting to feel like the rx8 is way more fun to drive!

I know nothing about rotary motors, but they fascinate me to no end.

So far from lurking, I've gathered that they like oil changes no less than every 3,000 miles and I shouldn't expect much in terms of MPG (who's counting anyway?)

Also I always let the motor warm up completely before turning it off. I've been moving cars around the driveway and the 8 gets a quick jog around the neighborhood every time. I don't mind

Any need to know tips for the newbie?

unfortunately no recent pics of the 240sx right now as it's in a different garage... here's an old pic.

Bring it to the redline everytime you take it out. It'll help the engine breathe.

welcome to CALI!!! check out the "socal lounge" for more info on shops/events....

BTW...... before you ask...

Racing Beat has all the products you need....to get more ZOOM ZOOM...look at JEDI54's set-up he is all N/A and has got a lot more HP... but then again thats with the COBB ACCESSPORT +Tuning.... the COBB ACCESSPORT is not compatible with the 09 RX8's yet... but as far as HEADER, EXHAUST, INTAKE, CATBACK, MIDPIPE, PLUGS, WIRES, ETc... its all available from RACING BEAT for the 09' models. I say get all the mods I listed and wait for a COBB then you will be good to go.... i wouldnt TURBO or SUPERCHARGE a brand new RX8 especially being a R3....as far as the suspension goes... keep the suspension.. IM sure its good enough for a good while... i would say get about 50k out of it before swappign out... you want to get your moneys worth...maybe just some HR lowering springs for now....the COBB ACCESSPORT is availbale from MAZDAMANIAC....MAZDAMANIAC.com... i would keep in touch with him on getting an 09 COBB AP to come out...

But yeah GET all the 09 RACING BEAT products.. you can never go wrong with RACING BEAT...and IMHO they can be resold on here easily

RACINGBEAT.com you can expect about 20hp with all the products they have for the 09....

whoa thanks all!

I'm not interested in modding my car quite yet... haven't even broken in the motor! btw: what do you recommend as far as break in procedure? I read racing beat's recommendation of 1-2000 miles... is that generally what you guys follow?

@dozer thanks for the heads up, i'll head over to the socal forum and say hi. hope to meet you guys sometime in the future!

ps: picked up the car from tustin mazda, they were really nice. --then headed over to santa ana to get some baguettes from lee's!
