I dont own a RX-8, but I really think its a sweet car. But here is a little question. Is this car really fun to drive? Because ive been debating on going into the military to be able to buy a RX-8 and would it be worth doing that?

You need to get your values straight. The 8 is the most fun to drive car I've owned. However, defending our country in the military is a calling and the RX-8 is just a car. Equating the two is misguided thinking.

Wow... I joined the Army 19 years ago to afford to get married. Looking back that was a crazy decision (not the army part... . I have had some great experiences over the years in the military, but I also lost 2 friends in Iraq. No car is worth all that.

There are easier ways to afford a car. However, military service can be a great career and very rewarding for the right people. Oh, and our transient nature often means we drive nice cars since we don't put the money into housing...

I don't know about evertone else, but my quote from State Farm was only $8.00 more every 6 months than my current P5. They view it as a 4 door compact vehicle. :D

 

The RX-8 is a great car but you shouldn't go to the military to buy one. Compare the time you'll spend at the military and the time you'll spend in the car and ask yourself if that's worth it ...

 

Or in other words, you're 21 years old. Maybe you should just accept the fact that an 8 is out range for you at this point. Go to the military, if you truly want to go there. And buy the 8, when you have the money to do so and still want to at that point.

But don't let such an important decision in your life be influenced by a car, no matter which one.

 

Live within your means. If you are unable to qualify for a loan right now, or if the payments would exceed your means, then make choices that fit within your budget.

Insurance - call or search online for an insurance quote One person's rate won't be anothers based on age, geographic location, driving history, job security etc.

 

Don't enlist for a car.

During my pre-enlistment physical, the doctor asked me why I was volunteering. I told him I needed to pay for college. He told me that there are better ways to pay for college. I didn't believe him at the time (at 18yrs old I knew everything).

I now have my degree and looking back, I think the Dr knew more than I gave him credit for.

Enlisting is serious business. It should not be undertaken lightly.

BTW-Are you even sure you could afford the payments and insurance?

 

You get jobs based on your ASVAB score. usually if you score low you get stuck in the infantry or artillery units. I took the test in 99 and scored very well and was offered one of the best jobs in the Army as a Petroluem Laboratory Technician. After 4 yrs i got out and got a job with Halliburton in Houston and after 6 months with the company i was able to pay cash for my 8.

 

My dealer told me i can get the same rate as a 4 dr sedan. My insurance agent told me i could not do that. Who is right?

 

Your insuranace agent. So go find another one.

 

You're allowed to choose your job from a list of those with openings for which you're qualified. (And FWI cooks have lower requirements than infantry).

i waited till i was out of college to get one too, and plus if you still want to do the military thing, officers get paid more and as a college grad you would qualify for OCS

 

I thought about going to the air force and becoming a officer. Its not as bad as being enlisted.

 

indeed...i've always had a childhood vision of myself on the bridge of a navy ship, so if the draft is coming back, i think i'll preempt them and just join the navy ocs and get a commission

i think with an associates degree you can be a warrant officer
