the heat melted my visor!!!

hey 8ters,

wondering if anyone else has had some misfortune with the heat if you live in a hotter state/country. my car was parked outside today while i was in work (no other option) and when i got to my car this afternoon, i proceeded to take down my windshield visor, and when i went to put the driver side sun visor back up in position, the left hinge basically j ust peeled off!!! after further investigation, i saw that the heat in the car acutally MELTED the plastic fixings on the hinge!! how crappy is that?! anyone else have any suggestions? mazda better warranty this one! my car isn't even a month old!!! it even has the enviromental protection plan that some dealerships add to the car. i better not get charged for this!!!!

It's too bad I just have a cheap ole' Evo interior and don't get to experience the quality of materials in the RX-8 interior.

I'd think it would have to get pretty damn hot in the car to melt the plastic on the visor. Probably warped from the heat. I've had cd's warp from heat in cars before. I dunno is warping actually considered melting?

People need to stop this trend of giving gay anime names to their cars.

I'm in FL and it can get to 110 on my car and I've had no issues at all. I do use a windshield screen thing...but it still gets HOT inside the car.

I'm with Abbid...I think it might be a factory issue, not weather issue.

Had both of mine replaced under warranty last summer. So far the replacements are holding up just fine and haven't cracked along the seam, but then again I don't ever touch/move the visors to begin with.

Is that the reason why Evo got all the other problems ? that just wont happen in the 8 ?

Now, you can just shut your pie hole.

Why not just buy one of those sun shield things that cover the front windshield and shade your interior from mazdatrix for like 17 bucks plus shipping and get that cool rx8 decal thing in the middle of it?

Been there, done that, got two new visors to prove it.

By the way, the visors didn't melt. The glue/chewing gum that held the two halves together softened and they were both hanging straight down one afternoon. Pissed me off!!! Not that they did that (warranty), but that one smacked me in the head as I was getting into the car.

Sunshade

This happened to me last Friday.

I walked out and pulled down my windshield sunshade (yeah, I use one, and my car was facing north too) and the visor flopped around on it hinge.

What happened was the adhesive holding the visor togther let loose and the spring inside that detents on the metal shaft came loose. There is a big split now beteen the top an bottom pieces of plastic.

I called my dealer to get a replacement. They have to replace it. It wanted to swap it myself since it sits on the seat beside me now. And the fact they like to wash the car everytime they get it and it waterspots while I am waiting to the paperwork!

I got my 8 in the fall of 2004 as a 2005. So I have been through one summer in this furnace and had no issues.

I thought I was home free, and could listen to all the lame complaints others had about their 8s!

Now I am am bitcher myself...

Dammit!

My car is less than 2 weeks old and mine did this same thing. I had to go to the dealership anyway for them to re-program my alarm. Now I just have something else for them to fix.

Same thing happened to me...went out to the car after work and was taking the sunshade down when the visor just fell apart. But it wasnt a big deal. The dealership had another in stock and replaced it in about 20 minutes.
