Heartbroken
I have to honestly say that I am extremely disappointed that Mazda has announced another "Shinka". At this very moment, I wish I could give it back. I thought it would be something a bit more unique. If they're going to make a Shinka every year, they may as well make 10,000.

Yeah, I know. But for some reason, it's still hard to swallow. I still love the car like nothing else I've ever driven. This just makes my decision to keep the car easier. Next purchase will be a Boxter....or Cayman, if the raises continue at the current rate. LOL!
I guess they sold a lot of Shinka's, and thought it would be profitable to make some more. Get a few toys for your Shinka to make it 'yours'. If you really want something unique, maybe you'd consider getting a Mazdaspeed 8 on special order maybe?
well think of it this way, there will be NO MORE Black Cherry Mica Shinka RX-8s to be purchased new off of the dealer lot, so in fact you now have a Shinka with a *dicontinued* color (read *LIMITED*).
feel more special now? lol

Not to be harsh, but... big deal! You're over-reacting. Whether Mazda called it an M Edition, Special Edition, or Shinka Edition - what it boils down to is the 2005 Shinka Edition was Mazda North America's special edition for the 2005 model year.
This isn't anything new for Mazda - in the Miata line, for 1994 they came out with the M Edition. Special Montego Blue Mica colour, different wheels, a few extra features, a limited edition. For 1995 - another M Edition, this time in Merlot Mica colour. And so on - from 94 to 97, they made an M Edition, each year in a special unique colour and with unique wheels. For 99, they had the 10th Anniversary Edition. For 2000, it was just known as the SE - still, a unique colour and wheels. 01, 02, each year a new SE. For 2003, they called the SE a Shinsen Edition (ooh, sounds close to "Shinka"!
)
Point being, whatever name they gave it (ie Shinka, Shinsen, M Edition, SE, etc) what it really is is the 2005 RX-8 Special Edition for the US. If they come up with a different-spec Shinka Edition for 2006 - it's exactly like the Miata "M Edition"s and later SEs - a new special edition using the same name as the previous year's.
FWIW, in Canada they offered that same 2005 Black Cherry/Beige package, but never called it a Shinka, just a SE!
Regards,
Gordon

Yeah, just make sure to drive it and enjoy it. I know on the Miata boards they have stories about people that bought the 10th anniversary Miata's as an investment and got hosed as there was not huge apprecation in the cars. Should buy a car to drive and if it happens to appreciate, that's great, but shouldn't and in 99% of the time doesn't happen.
True....which is the best thing about the 8. Like I said previously, it's the best machine I've ever driven. Hands down. I'll forget all about this tomorrow when I start the engine headed to work. LOL!
In some ways, I coulre care less about the appreciation (with the 8). It's so much fun to drive.
I just live in this military town and they are around every corner. I think I've seen 2 other Shinkas here.

If you want a "classic" or "unique" production car, you need to wait about 20-30 years and then buy it. If you don't believe me, ask the owners of the original British Racing Green Miatas (the first special edition Miata). They manufactured more BRGs than yellow first-gen Miatas.
