You'll know if you have the film inside your headlamps. They appear to be fogging up on the inside of the lens, and no amount of cleaning on the outside can remedy the situation

Tell me...is a rainbow effect the start of fogging up or are my eyes playing a trick on me???

It looks basically like oil or gas, in water. It's due for a wash so I'll have to verify but I thought I'd ask.

what i have on my car is some kinda film on the inside... i see it more at night when the lights are on..... but i dont know if thats the film you all are talking about. you really cant see it that much in the daylight... so i guess its just a light film then... is that what you all got? almost non-visible during the day, visible at night?

That's what I have on mine too. The old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" may be true here too. Just how bad does it have to be for Mazda to replace it?

Mine had the "film" on my headlights. It's basically like the windshields fogging up, drying up, fogging up, drying up repeatedly and you've never washed the car or wiped it, there's a slight blurryness to it and you can never get to it because it's on the other side. I had it replaced under warranty

It's a Mazda defect. Something to do with the chemicals they used...
I had mine replaced with no hassle.

mine came back, just not as bad as the originals. The old ones were 80% covered, the new ones are only in the corners.

Does anyone have a photo of this? Or is it the kind of thing where cameras don't really capture the problem?

No cameras will capture the problem and its under warrenty so take it in. I had this in all 4! and watter in the back right light!
I was so pi$$ed every time I made a left hand turn I had watter leaking out of my light. I could not wax my car after I washed it.

Had mine replaced under warranty as well. No real push back by the service manager. The only hassle was that they had to ship the headlights in, and because they were poorly packaged, the headlights were damaged. This happened 3 times so they had to keep the car overnight. Dealer provided a rental though.

I heard Mazda switched vendors because of this and the new headlights shouldn't have this problem again.

mine is only in the corners. i never really worried about it, but ill bring it in with my next service. I just crossed over 12k miles, so im out of the adjustment warrenty...but it should still be ok.

oh I should say when they got the new lights in I did ask to see them prior to having them installed. Just to make sure there was no film on them yet.

Its not going to be there if they are new. Its a build up thing with the weather and Humidity.

just cause they are in a box doesn't mean they didnt sit in a hot storage facility. There are other ways for humidity to get to them than on the car.
