the reverse is sometimes tricky to get into, it will grind if you have it in partially. Try leaving the car turned off, and with the clutch fully depressed, going into reverse a few times. Listen for the noises it makes and you should be able to hear when it's in properly.

one of a few problems of the 6 sp. I also have to allow the warm up period to have a smooth engaging of the reverse ...its not that I'm doing the downshift wrong, its just the fricking cars tranny has to warm up to temp...my bad

Even driving in forward, my car had to warm up before it shifted nicely. This was true stock and with redline transmission/diff oils. When I switched to royal purple, the car drove like it was warmed up even when it was ice cold. Well worth the investment of 4 bottles of max gear.

Try shifting into first gear and inching forward just a tiny bit, then shifting into reverse. Works for me every time that I can't get it into reverse. That actually works on just about any car, but the 8 has been the toughest manual tranny to hit reverse in that I have had so far.

I use to have the same problem when I first bought the car for maybe the first 10k miles.

Sometimes when putting it into reverse it would not fully engage and grind. Would have to put it back into reverse. I finally just started putting it into reverse twice. So put it in, back to neutral then back into reverse before letting the clutch out. Doing that never had a issue and currently it seems fine.

LOL, what SHE said....BTW, it doesnt work for me if I just put it in first and then back into reverse. I actually have to engage first before it will go into reverse sometimes. This doesn't happen all the time, but I would say most of the time.

this is normal, all cars with a manual box do this sometimes, it comes from the gear not being syncronized.

step on the clutch, try to put it in, if it grinds then re-clutch, take it out and let go of the clutch, then (re-)re-clutch and put the gear in. but the forwards and then reverse works too if you have the space to do it in.
