having trouble going on reverse
just got my 8 monday and i cant get use to the reverse, sometimes it grinds and wont go in, what is the easiest way or the right way to put it in reverse??
are you pushing the knob down, while you are shifting in reverse?
yes i push it down
is it new or used? and does it stay in reverse once its in gear?
stop. go into neutral. when engine is at idle press clutch in press shifter vertically down. while holding shifter down move shifter to the rigth and then back
it is used with 14k miles, and zoom44, thats what i do, also somebody told me something about double clutching before putting it in reverse, does that matter??
also, yes it does stay in reverse
the reverse is sometimes tricky to get into, it will grind if you have it in partially. Try leaving the car turned off, and with the clutch fully depressed, going into reverse a few times. Listen for the noises it makes and you should be able to hear when it's in properly.

I got my 8 with 17k miles and i had the same problem. I was doing everything right, but it was grinding and I had to slam it into gear. I took it to Mazda, explained the problem, promblem solved

one of a few problems of the 6 sp. I also have to allow the warm up period to have a smooth engaging of the reverse ...its not that I'm doing the downshift wrong, its just the fricking cars tranny has to warm up to temp...my bad

2 clicks sound when the reverse gear is truly in.
^yup
i think it's time to take it to the dealer |
Try shifting into first gear and inching forward just a tiny bit, then shifting into reverse. Works for me every time that I can't get it into reverse. That actually works on just about any car, but the 8 has been the toughest manual tranny to hit reverse in that I have had so far.
I use to have the same problem when I first bought the car for maybe the first 10k miles.
Sometimes when putting it into reverse it would not fully engage and grind. Would have to put it back into reverse. I finally just started putting it into reverse twice. So put it in, back to neutral then back into reverse before letting the clutch out. Doing that never had a issue and currently it seems fine. |

this is normal, all cars with a manual box do this sometimes, it comes from the gear not being syncronized.
step on the clutch, try to put it in, if it grinds then re-clutch, take it out and let go of the clutch, then (re-)re-clutch and put the gear in. but the forwards and then reverse works too if you have the space to do it in. |
well that never hapend to me, i will try everything, and see what happends
Sit backwards and put it in first.
