has anyone tried an acetone/xylene/toluene mix for better MPG?

The one question I still have remaining though, is if it is this cost effective, and the gas companies are already adding it to the fuel in lesser quantities, why not add in 3oz per gallon across the board? Would you consider governmental politics as the hurdle you are contemplating?

Has anyone tried the acetone(or the other chemicals) in the rx? I'm curious about this, mostly. Since I already dump a vial of premix in at every tank, its not like it'd be much more work to dump a vial of acetone.... I'm a bit worried about components of the car, though.

As an engine builder I cannot see any reason to worry about doing it with an Rx8 or any rotary...they use the same type of fuel injectors as other vehicles, and burn the same gasoline to begin with, therefore the effect should be the same. I would not expect a significant gain in an rx8 though, as most of the difficulty in obtaining good mpg on the highway is in the high rpm gearing of the engine/drivetrain related to speed.

Unfortunately I never really road trip my rotary cars to be able to run accurate tests of acetone mpg in them, and since the stuff does little to no good in city driving, I'd see it as pointless to try it with my current driving habits.

I wouldn't say it's a wild success, but I have been using 2oz of pure Acetone to every 10 gallons in my v6 Rust-ang for a couple of years now and I have consistently been getting 30mpg on the highway. That's up from 24mpg. So....a 25% mileage increase isn't too bad.

I just haven't gotten the ***** to do this to my RX-8 yet. There are rumors that doing this will fry your injectors or eat your lines (blah, blah), so I'm waiting until my Rust-ang either dies or blows up!

Would you think it would be safe to use a lacquer thinner containing an Acetone/Xylene/Toulene mix for better MPG?
