Has anyone modified the fake rear air diffuser

I was washing my 8 earlier, and my 9 year old pointed to the lower bumper and said "hey Dad, thats fake! I though that was a undercar spoiler like a Ferrari" ...oh, the shame! He was referring the the fake mesh on the lower part of the bumper, something I never really liked myself, cant stand anything fake...except *****...but I digress...

Anyways, other than completely new bumper from a kit, have any of you changed it, like riped out the fake mesh and put real mesh? If so, any pics?

Does it bug anybody else, or just me?

I don't mind it, but I once got some wax inside of it, and it's been there ever since.

Noone did a real mesh swap only a add on chrome mesh. I don't think it matters unless you are into the looks of the car.

Someone on here add over top of the rear mess...ahem...mesh. Which is what I would love to do...just let me find the link. Sorry, pics are gone.

yiksing, of course we're into looks. That's one of the reasons we bought such a sharp looking car.

Yes, it does bother me, as does the fact that only the bottom third of the front grill is functional.

I remember when I first washed my car almost three years ago, and saw the fake mesh. I wondered what I could do as well since I thought it looked kind of goofy (yet, somewhat unnoticable at the same time). I eventually got the MS kit, so the fake mesh is gone, but I'd like to see what it looks like replaced with real mesh if anyone has done it.

In this post: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/new-here-new-rims-88695/

YaRiX8 painted part of the diffuser, but the "mesh" is the same:

Arrow Jdm....

One of our Japanese members posted pics of his modded "mesh" - he had cut out all the centres of the plastic diamonds, to make a real (plastic) mesh!

Pics have long since disappeared, people asked how he did it -
"Dremel" was the answer !

One of the problems with replacement is that the bumper supports itself from the back of that mesh.

Its not gonna look good behind the mesh if you swap it into a real see thru mesh.

If you can touch then, they're real.

I was actually wondering the same thing about the front of my car this morning. I was wishing I could sort of make it see through so I could actually see my RB Air Duct.

If the fake rear air diffuser bothers him, please, no one mention the oil pressure gauge. That'll drive him nuts. It does me.

It bothers the hell out of me—just like that dumb fourth smokestack on the Titanic. Stupid fake things.

Originally the Titanic (and its sister ship Olympic) were to have just three funnels. But one of the owners felt that four would look better. Hence the dummy stack.
