Oh, my bad! Certainly, Mazda would have no trouble making the RX-8 a hard-top convertible, with all the machinery that would entail, and all the body stiffening that would require, without adding weight, thereby lowering power-to-mass ratio, or worsening handling.

i wouldnt buy an rx8 convertible for the same reason i never even considered a miata.... the 8 is my daily driver, and driving a convertible in all weather conditions just sucks. not to mention all the reasons already stated.

the suicide doors wouldnt be able to make a decent b-pillar, and that=no ability to survive a t-bone or rollover - even with the hardtop up. the extra weight would make this car a slug. if they made taht it would be comparable weight to making an rx8 sport wagon. next, with the reduced rigidity from not having a permanent top, our handling would be shot.

also with the extra weight in the back you can kiss our 50/50 weight balance goodbye. thats one of THE best things about this car.

so all in all, YES there would be people who bought it... but, there would be so many changes necessary it wouldnt even be recognizeable as an 8. hell, look at the one in the pic, it looks like an s2000.

so truthfully, if you want a convertible 8, buy a miata. or an old convertible 7. if you want a car with a retractable top, buy one of the cars you mentioned, they were designed with the intention of having one.

also, miatas are getting their body style updated this year. they are small like that in the spirit of cars like the auston healey 3000, innumerable triumph models, and even the MG midget. the miata is what it is, a small lightweight car with a decent HP to weight ratio and handling like a go-cart. while not as sexy as the 8, they mx-5 is a great car.

 

Goddamn, people are trying to be nice to you, but you continue to act as if you are 13 years old. Everyone realizes what you are saying, and are telling you why it will isn't feasible (and respectfully so, for the most part), yet you inevitably call them names for pointing out the obvious reasons why a convertible Rx-8 will never happen. I agree whole-heartedly with your 'idiots in this world' comment. There's one in particular that I have in mind.
