One of my friends had a RX-7 and he claims that rotary engines are hard to start in cold weather. Is this true? I do not see why it would be harder to start that an inline four cylinder.

 

hes crazy, only problems i had were after I left mine sit for 3 months in the garage


-35 celcuis and colder starts for me, first time every time.

I don't believe "cold weather starting" was ever an issue with the RX-8.

Early RX-8s were susceptible to flooding if a cold engine was shut down before it warmed up; to address that issue, Mazda switched to a bigger battery and more powerful starter motor. But starting in cold weather was never a problem, AFAIK.

 

20 year old cars might be hard to start.

 

There was an issue with the starters in the '04 and early '05 models I think, but nothing of a major problem. The 8 has come a long ways from the 7.
