His residence...his car is always parked there unoccupied. What are the odds. And don't give me that "at a speed higher than posted" bs. We all own sportscars, everybody speeds from time to time. I already mentioned that the limits are artificially low on these roads. They are backroads but will easily support 40-50mph in most areas unless you are driving a 72 pontiac lemans with the original suspension and brakes. I was driving at a reasonable speed for a clear day in that area.
Edit: Meant to comment on the "artificially low" part. You said his car was parked at a residence. I'm definitely making assumptions about the road as I obviously don't have enough information, but residential areas typically have lower speed limits based on the fact that they're residential. Now, if this is a sparsely populated road with just a few houses, then maybe the limit should be higher. 30 is on the higher end of residential speed limits for even backroads residential areas. Residential areas also happen to be the one place I refuse to speed through, no matter how much of a hurry I'm in.

That really sucks. I had my car for 3 weeks and I got side swiped. It took almost a month to get my car back. (I had a Cadillac DTS as a rental.) Needless to say, I was not happy at all. I never missed a car so much in my life.

well tell them to also leave the drugs and flip that...j/k. Find a small body shop that will give you a good price and will do a good job. Body shops are not getting too much business right now is this economy so they're willing to barter. Let them know you're paying out of pocket, most people wont pass on the opportunity to make a little extra money these days(take it from someone thats in the business).

Every insurance policy I have had and every policy I sold automatically covered a new car for X number of days.
Unless you have SMUCK insurance he should be covered.
You don't have to have plates to insure a car.. pure nonsense.
Have you ever heard of collector cars?

Yes, I drove a car in that condition. I run a repair shop. I repair cars for people other than myself and for myself to resell later. I do not meet the state minimum requirements for an auto dealership (5 car sales per year) so I cannot get a dealer tag/insurance etc. How would you suggest I operate in this scenario?
You'd actually suggest that each time I tow home a non running car and fix it, that I pay all the registration fees etc. just so I can test drive it long enough to ensure that it is viable to post for sale? And when someone comes to look at the car and buy it, I should tell them it can't be driven?
And what about the project cars that customers bring to me to rebuild and get running? Most of my work is out of state so I can't just throw an engine together and let it idle in my driveway then call the customer and tell him it is okay to drive it 6 hours home without even test driving it for 5-10 miles. The car does not belong to me so I cannot personally register, tag or insure it. Some of these are older project cars that have sat for a while waiting for the owner to save up enough money to build it so they are not currently registered or insured. Again, what would you suggest I do? It has rarely been a major issue with non-dick cops after I explain that I am test driving a car I have repaired as part of my business and present my business card, then prove that my personal vehicles are insured as well.
Please, I'm eager to hear your explanation of how you would handle these situations.

As for registration and insurance? Well I dotn know the specific laws in your area. But usually if you have full coverage on a shop or personal vehicle that covers you while temporarily driving another vehicle. You should also have enough business liability insurance to cover customers cars in your care. IF those cars are registered and insured those papers should be with the car.
There are probably regs regarding automotive shops and registration in your state. you should already be aware of them and how you are supposed to comply with them. if you dont you should be at the DMV after this ticket instead of complaining about it on the internet. I bet they have a temp tag system that you are supposed to be using. If they dont YOU should talk to someone about instituting one.
Have you attempted to find out the basis for the speed limits in that area or how they are determined in your area? It could be they are artificially low. Recently it was found that Detroit had artificially low speeds that were actually dangerous for drivers to comply with.

If i really believe a law is wrong I figure out how to get it changed. Do I speed? yes. If i break 3 other laws while speeding- its not the fault of the cop who caught me.
I also dont believe that cops are always right. I was pulled over once driving on 95 in Jersey at 1am coming back from CBGBs in New York. I had 2 band mates in the car. no one had been drinking or smoking anything, completely sober. They didnt drink I hadnt because I had to drive. When the NJ state boys pulled us over they said that when they had passed us earlier they they had smelled pot. Mind you I was doing 65 in the middle lane passing a big rig in light rain so the cops had to have been doing 70 to pass me in that far left lane. They had us on the side of the road for a half an hour while they asked us each questions separately then asked for permission and did search the car. It was clear they had just pulled us over because we had out of state plates.
So I get it - but when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, its nobodies fault but yours. IF the rules are "unfair" do something to change them.

hi everyone,
i just fixed the suspension today!
I bought a lower control arm, shock, endlinks, and tie rod for only 200 dollars! i bought them from Mr. Curtis James on Ebay(mrmazda7). Has many used parts for RX8's. Tommorow im getting the car towed to the dealer to get a new key, the key on going to be the most expensive fix. Im just glad i got my car back. i also would like to say that i feel more welcome here than the eclipse 3g forums, I would have been harrased over there for my own mistake.
thanks

that is true! its ridiculous that they dont print every scene. that way when they do catch someone in the act they can match them up to the other things they've been up to and charge them with the whole bunch.
