Had a '95 RX7, how will an RX8 feel?

Saying "torque is overrated" is completely asinine. Torque is what makes your car go. Please don't make the inane argument that horsepower is what makes your car go - torque and horsepower are directly related. EVERYONE wants more torque/horsepower. Hence the horsepower wars in the 60s and the horsepower wars going on today. Also, one needn't look any further than commericals on TV (especially truck commercials), where they use the amount of torque as a main selling point.

Torque being overrated is just an opinion. Yeah I think most people get that torque and horsepower are related. It isn't completely asinine at all actually. Sometimes people like to just watch their rpms shoot up without being pressed to their seats from the plethora of torque. I have 302 pounds in my audi, and don't really feel it has some "fun to drive" advantage over no-torque revvers. In fact, you're hatred of these "not torued" cars obviously isn't shared by the editors of the number one car magazine Car and Driver. The RX8 won its comparison test and so did the RXS Type-S. It will usually be the case that lighter body frames with small displaced engines will have less torque. You may have your opinion but I'm not quite aure asinine is the right word.

Thats because your audi weighs 4000 pounds. It wouldn't be much fun driving a dump truck either even though it has over 1000 lbs-ft torque.
Put a torquey engine in a light car and it would be a much different experience.
In fact you could probably tune the renesis to have more power down low which is what most people mean when they talk about torque. Of course you'd sacrifice the power higher in the rpm's.
I personally enjoy both torquey engines and screamers they both have their benefits.

Are you going to acknowledge jayk's point that you say that in order to have torque you have to sacrifice weight and balance?

i just got my 8 about 1 1/2 months ago and sold my 93 r1 model to get it. i do miss the turbo feel, but i also love the super smooth high revving of the 8. The handleing is 95% as good, the 8 feels just awsome on twisty roads, the only place ive noticed the difference is in long sweeping higher speed turns, such as freeway onramps, where the 7 just felt more planted and stable. the 8 is a much easier car to drive, i love going on long drives at night taking all teh twisty backroads i can, but the 7 just drained you when driving it, after 30 min of driving the 7 through the twistys at a brisk pace i would feel tired. but the 8 is much easier to drive and control. honestly i dont think you would be dissapointed with an rx8 but another option you may want to consider is a s2000, if you arnt worried about having a back seat or if your not determined to have another rotary. i was actually looking for a s2000 after selling my 7 but a great deal on a rx8 fell into my lap and i loved the car so i went with the 8 instead. and as for the torque issue, its got enough. no it isnt a real powerhouse but its got plenty of power to make it a blast to drive.
