GOt rear ended Friday Night

Well this past Friday night was pretty depressing for me. I was on the highway in stop and go traffic. Some guy rear ended my car pretty hard and sandwhiched my car between him and the car in front of me. I havent gotten an estimate on the damages yet but Its clear that some new body work is in order, including a new rear bumper, passenger side rear fender, front bumper, and tail lights. My mazdaspeed sport exhaust is also finished so ill need a replacement. Thinking about going the TurboXS route since its three inch all the way through. Im hoping there wasnt any frame damage to the car but I wont know until the car gets looked at, prolly Tuesday. I was able to drive the car away from the accident though so im hopeful that its just some bodywork that I need. Im hoping to replace the body pieces with the full mazdaspeed kit. Im really just trying to make the best of my situation. I love this car to deathand im just greatful to be ok. On a side note, some jackass who happened to be driving by screamed out his window as he passed by "learn how to drive!" That pisses me off because he has no clue what happened. I know how to drive, very well I might add. People just assume that because you drive a sports car, you must be the one who caused the accident. Oh well, at least I know I didnt do anything. My car wasnt even moving when it got hit. Just wanted to share my story. Im really just happy that I wasnt injured.

since your exhaust was damaged, make sure they check your engine out too - since the exhaust system is directly connected to it.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck.

+1 for getting the whole engine checked over. Exhaust bumps can be more trouble than you'd expect.

ouch, yea get it completely checked. if the exhaust got owned then the cat and manifold possibly took some stress and ... hopefully not everything further up (engine).

Some guy in a 1980's dodge van, prolly in his 30's. I think he was busy rubbernecking at some mercury mountaineers that were pulled over on the side of the road. Son of a .....

I know the sandwiched feeling. (https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/my-rx-8-got-pwned-82-corolla-53744/) I got rear ended by some chode coming at full speed while I was waiting at a stop light. Front and rear bumpers, a headlight, two tail lights, a trunk, GReddy exhaust, right rear fender, and some minor frame straightening cost about $11g all said and done.

You said someone yelled at you for being your fault?? Make sure the insurance people dont see it that way. Legally it was the van's fault, but if you bumped the guy in front of you, that will be considered your fault legally (for being to close).
GL man. Crossing fingers for a rx8-07 loner car.

As long as your trunk isn't smashed, frame damage isn't likely. And if the van rear ended you first, then it's definitely the van's fault and not your fault at ALL.

The guy who yelled at me did so about 40 minutes after the accident. He never saw it happen and the police report shows that I am not at fault. Trunk is smashed though. **worries**
