Got a new RX-8 R3!

Hey all,
Just got my 2010 R3 a couple of days ago and wanted to say 'hi!'

It's a fantastic vehicle... And if it weren't for this forum, I would have bought a 370Z, which is what I was researching and was going to test drive until I stumbled here on an autox thread. Then my love for nimble handling cars got the better of me and I remembered the oft-forgotten RX-8, and was smitten when I saw the R3 model.

Took a test drive and was in awe of the chassis, and spent less than I would have on a base Z with Sport package (what I was looking at). And best of all, I can take a couple of the kids with me on my adventures too, something that was starting to bother me about the Z (yes, we have a minivan, this was gong to be daddy's fun weekday car ).

Anyway, I had an LS1 Vette before my kids were born, and this is the most fantastic vehicle I've owned since then. Here's the fave cars I've owned since the Vette:
  • 2007 Saleen Supercharged Mustang GT Convertible (475bhp). Had to sell due ti cross country move due to work. I loved this car terribly.
  • 2005 Neon SRT-4
  • 2008 HHR-SS (5sp 260bhp)

Anyway, I feel more at home in the RX-8 than any of the others. This is a driver's car, and while it is not fast by any means (straight line of course), piloting it puts a silly grin on your face. And the R3 looks like an exotic car, gets a LOT of attention, way more than I expected.

It's gorgeous and I love it. It's quirky, it has character and it's an exotic car for < 30k. It handles like a go cart, seats 4, and is a car you'll remember when you're an old man.
Love it, and wanted to say Hi!

congrats on a fabulous purchase. you'll love it! make sure you learn the quirks about this car and the ins and outs of required routine maintenance on this forum. i love R3s. i quite like the 370z as well but i'm a rotary nut and if you have kids, the 8 is definitely the better car

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm glad to be here!

I'm actually in North Texas (near Denton). It's the Denton Classic Mazda Dealership (and that parking lot was the Lake Dallas Walmart parking lot )

Congratulations on the R3 and welcome to the club! Good to see someone with your car background (horsepower!) appreciating the finer points of the RX8. Take it to the track and you'll really appreciate it. I've only done about 15 mins on a small course and I'm already hungry for more.

Good choice! I just can't get behind the 370z, it's not good looking car at all.

I second the comment about appreciating the finer points of the 8 even after owning a Vette.

You will love it, just hit 60K with my '04 and it literally drives like new.

BTW, that is nice shot of your car for a quick parking lot photo.

Can you rev her freely to 9k while breaking in the engine ? I imagine rotaries to break in easier than piston types. Just a guess.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Click on the engine break in link on this page. This is how you break in a rotary.

These engines can become very problematic if not taken care of properly. Do some reading here on the forum and LEARN the ins and outs of the 8. You will benefit from the info
