Hey guys..............I have a 04 MT and she's only got around 7000 miles on her, she's my weekender and never has seen a winter. I got it up to around 110 mph today when I noticed the engine light came on..............slowed down and it went off. Brought it up to speed again and same thing. Called Mazda and the mechanic said it was a speed limiter or something to that effect, it's implemented into coaxing you to slow down from his explanation. My question is has anyone heard of this and are they full of ****........inturn should I insist they look at it. Thanks

 

Sounds like he's full of **** to me....I've been above 110 mph in my 04 MT and no check engine light has ever come on.

The AT has a limiter to around 115 mph (I believe), but the MT is not limited at all.

Sounds like a misfire to me.

 

how do you only have 7000 miles on the car, you need to drive it more. It might be the K&n intake check the clamps connectors.

 

btw its cel check engine light not cell

 

I was thinking maybe they reserved him a cell at the gray bar motel for going 110mph

 

I have an 04 MT and never had a CEL come on! I'd say u better take it to a different dealer or mechanic and have them look at it.

 

+1 on the misfire. Mine has seen 148 with no CEL...

 

i'd go with misfire too. you might need new splugs/coils.

 

goto the dealer and have them pull the codes. I think it's a misifre. I've been over 150 with not CEL

 

My initial thought as well.

It's probably going to be hard to get the dealer to diagnose a problem that only happens at 110. I think this one would certainly be "could not replicate."

 

This has happend to me once.. it was a misfire in cylinder 2.

check your spark plugs and gas cap!

Strange that it is consistant. The plug and coil check is a good idea.

Make sure your using Premium.

 

I'm thinking that it's just a warning that your not driving your car enough.

 

Since no one else has mentioned it yet, I think it might be a misfire............

hey, did you ask your dealer if it coulda been a misfire? if not, try that.

 

I got a misfire at 106.

 

At 110mph mine is just crawling out of bed.

 

Seen 110+, never a check engine light

 

I was doing 125 in my Volvo C80 and I never had a CEL.

I think the dealer you talked to has a CEL going off.
