This has got to be one of the worst weeks ever. A few days ago my scraper (98 Malibu) died. I got it in the shop, and its going to cost more money to fix it than its worth. If thats not bad enough, I just got into an accident on the 880 here in the Bay Area. I was on my way to Dave and Busters to meet up with my boy thats been at Cal Poly for the last 6 months. I'm trailing this car in the fast lane (plenty of distance) and all the sudden they ran over what looks to be some sort of black piece of plastic, it flies back and hits me straight on. Overall the car is still drivable, and I'm ok (thank God), but the right side of the bumper is cracked in several places, the side marker is broken, the undertray is broken, the fog light is scratched up, and I couldn't see for sure but it looks like the intercooler took a pretty good hit too. I have no clue how much this is going to cost me, and at this point I really don't want to think about it. But this has definitely be a bad week. Oh, and unfortunately, this is NOT an April Fool's joke. I Wish it was...

oh damn... sorry it happened michael. so it took out everything off your front bumper. how bad is it? is the fiberglass killed w/ big chunks taken out? man guna cost quite a bit. sorry man.

 

There aren't chunks missing, but it is cracked in quite a few places. I don't know much about fiberglass or hybrid aero, but I don't think it can be fixed. I'll take pics in the morning. Yeah, this is going to be expensive. I'm not sure if insurance will cover the bumper since its aftermarket.

 

I had a few light cracks on mine when hitting a tire on the road and also the corners near my sidemarkers chipped off, but i had those repaired. I don't know about insurance either sorry. When you get those pics up we can hopefully see if its fixable. May not be as durable as hybrid aero if it is fixed though.

I'm a fellow Ings front owner myself....**** Moos, sorry to here of that. Are you going to replace it? Hell, them piaa's wre looking tight on that Ings too....good luck.

 

I would be so happy if it was fixable. I finally just ordered the spoiler so I'd have the whole kit, so I really don't want to go with another bumper at this point.

I really don't want to replace it, so we'll see if it is indeed fixable.

 

Man, that sucks big time...
I doubt your interceptor is damaged... you it would have to be a pretty nasty wreck to cause enough damage to reach the ECU.

Hopefully your insurance can at least compensate you for the value of the stock bumper.

When my last car was totalled... i got paid out for all the mods, minus the cost of the OEM part that i removed. Then again the wreck wasn't my fault... and i was just dealing with the other guys insurance.

take it to a good body shop nothing a little fiberglass here and there wouldn't fix (hopefully the damage isn't that bad). Sucks that you just was about to complete the puzzle. Funny thing I was just at dave and busters...

btw your malibu was running fine a week ago what happen? Time to invest in your next mod a more reliable beater.

 

Where do I start...

They say bad things strike in three, and I have to agree. Just a few weeks ago the backlight on my laptop went out. Apparently you can't just replace the backlight, you have to replace the entire screen. Gonna cost $600 just for the part. I figure the labor will be between $150-250. I really don't have the money to fix all of these things

fortunately for you, fiberglass is really easy to fix at the right shop, it might not be cheap, but it also might not be cheaper than a new bumper with the way this country works.

damn from those closed up pictures it looks pretty bad but luckily most damages are just around yr bumper.

 

What sucks is that a little over a year ago, something similar happened to my stock bumper.

 

it looks fixable, bodyshop would have to take out the old fiberglass remains and then layer new fiberglass over it to fill it up. And then repaint the whole thing.Luckily its only cracks so not a big piece would have to be replaced. Go get an estimate and hope its not killer.

That chipped piece near your passenger clear corner is exactly what happened to mine when I hit the tire, but I didn't get any cracks like yours.

What about insurance? I have state farm and they're really decent when it comes to stuff like this.

My friend hit a 2x4 on the road and it messed up his front bumper and special order rims. The people at starm farm told him if the object was in the air at the time it struck the car it's considered an "act of god" and he's not at fault and insurance pays the whole thing (minus the deductable of course). He told them it was in the air, and was able to get a whole new front bumper, 2 rims, 2 new tires, and paint and labor all for his deductable. Since it was an "act of god" his rates stayed the same.

Might be an avenue to check out.

I will definitely look into it. My only fear is that they'll notice that over half of my car has been modified, and my rates will shoot up. This is the only time I have to say that unfortunately my car is far from stock.

 

you be fine, I would pay for it out of pocket. I hate paying higher premiums, at the end you save more money paying it out of pocket.

Those cracks are fixable, My side skirts are cracked, been putting off too, but I seen kits look worse than that come back to life.
