Good bye RX-8. Good bye clubmembers.

So I'm done with the whole sports coupe thing. The RX-8 is gone. No more. Couple weeks ago I spotted the first sign of apex seal failure (compression failing), so I had to get rid of it ASAP before it asks for a new engine.

But what to pick? So many choices, so little time. I knew what I wanted in my new car, that is comfort, luxury, class, but yet boat loads of power.

I could go for used M5s, but maintenance is nuts on the wallet.

A CTS-V? Nah. Too American, and the seats are designed for people way bigger than me.

A stock S2000? Not comfortable enough.

An Evo? Not enough class. I'd be raising red flags with the cops all across town with that gigantic wing.

A WRX? Can't find a used one that hasn't been beaten to death by yuppies.

A MazdaSpeed3? Nope. Too much of an econo hatch, and the interior is rubbish.

A used M3? Like the M5, too much money in maintenance.

An Infiniti G35/7? Everything I could ask for, but every other Asian out there has one.

I like my cars subtle, fairly unknown, and rare.

So what did I pick?

Why, the one car with AWD, luxury, comfort, and rarity (only 9000 ever built worldwide).

I ended up with this:

http://www.thechicagotoystore.com/de...d-4800386.html

Photoshoot pics coming soon. I just got back from the Chicago Toy Store where I got it.

Finally, I CAN HAZ TORK.

P.S. >> I am still, and forever will be, a rotorhead. I will miss the orgasmic noise a rotary makes at 9000rpm. But the RX-8 was dying. I knew it was coming, and it knew the end is near too. There has just been too much racing. Too much abuse. But right now, right here, I know I will have another rotary car when the next generation 16X motor comes out. I just know it.

For now, this four cylinder turbo big fat sedan will do.

I will miss the RX-8. It was my first car, and what a first it was. I fell in absolute love over it.

Most of all, I will miss the RX-8 club, with it's sense of brotherhood, and the breed of racers who push the RX-8 to it's maximum potential.

Good bye.

Im just curious how do you figure out that your apex seal is failing? Do you do regular compression tests or what? Or have you just been getting lack of power? Tell me how you found out.

Congrats and Happy Returns....

It was at 47,xxx on the trade-in papers.

I think it's a bit selfish, someone will be looking for an 8 and buy your old one. Within a few months the engine will go and they'll be just like the other 8 owners that have had a bad experience with their 8. Granted there's a 100,000 mile warranty it does put a sour taste in the new owner's mouth, am I wrong?

That's up to the dealership to sort out.

Selfish yes, but I'm a poor college student with no money for a new engine. A sour taste in the new owner's mouth sure, but I've also done my best to ignore this sour taste in my own mouth, with the engine starting to fail at ~50,000mi and all.

The car's been that good to me.

C'est la vie...

What about Mazda? I'm sure Mazda has given many owners that sour taste in the mouth...

But then, c'est la vie. Non?

Would you suggest that the OP fix the car up nice and good before selling it or trading it in for peanuts? I think that's nuts.

Right. It's business. I love cars with all my heart, but when it comes to dealing with stealerships I'm all business.

I'm not likely to get such a thing. I did all my own maintenance, and I have quite a big of mods in the engine bay.

Plus I've spoken to techs, and they told me it'll take a lot of hoop jumping to get it. It's not as easy as just showing up and getting a new engine.

CyberPitz 12-20-2009 04:27 PM

You didn't keep any records? There's always a way to get it. Why just assume the worst when you haven't even tried?

Although, I guess they are stealerships for a reason. One day, the people can TRUST in them....Yeah right...

Sucks dude.

Lol, poor college student and your list of cars you are looking at is CTS-V's, M5's, M3's, G37 etc...

Apparently your definition of poor and mine differ!

I always have to say..... mommy & daddy.

Lebren 12-20-2009 07:02 PM

Even a poor college student (myself at one time) can get the motor rebuilt.

Myself in your shoes: take all the mods out, use that money for labor. in the future, keep notes in a folder and document the date and mileage of work done on receipts.

Good luck in your future endeavors whatever they may be.

RickA 12-20-2009 07:12 PM

Ummm not sure if you're aware of this but the "gigantic wing" on the evo CAN be removed... (as it should be)

have fun

peace

Lebren 12-20-2009 07:16 PM

It's a functional wing though

mscamp02 12-20-2009 07:30 PM

At least you picked a good car. GL with it

the functionality doesnt make up for how ugly it is unless you're doing multiple track days a year... most people don't so the functional wing is creating drag... and it looks like dog shit

I agree it's ugly, since it's a rally car by heart..... It's hard to take away function for form in return. just my 2c

I do agree with this sentiment. Man up and admit fault with yourself for not keeping receipts on your changes *if you didn't* instead of screwing over the next person to pick it up.

You're shedding at least 5-10 lb by ditching an ugly trunk ornament... how's that? ;)

Pico 12-20-2009 08:15 PM

Threads like this are depressing.

You all know the new owner will be on here looking for the solutions of this so called engine failure asking the same questions that have been answered over and over.

from everyone here ----- Thank You for pushing your problem aside for us to possibly help solve in the future for the new owner.

You do know that is works out better for the dealership to get it done under warranty right? they get paid on the spot by mazda and can take their time. so its a win win for the owner and dealership, maybe not mazda though lol

Actually, it is a question of business. If you have something I want, and me something you want, I'm going to try and get what I want with as little of a loss as possible to me.

Sorry. I have integrity when dealing with friends and nice people. Business is a separate matter. It is only logical.

And pay $3000 for a new engine not including labor?

That's a very nice thing to do, but when it's business, I'm not nice. I honestly have better things to do than be out of a daily driver AND $3000.

rodjonathan 12-20-2009 10:49 PM

nice looking 6 congrats

ZumnRx8 12-20-2009 11:22 PM

i like the first post and totally agree..... and congrats bro! But if you have never been in an S2k... it honestly as good as the 8 in comfortability...:yesnod: But congrats bro... dont be a stranger and good luck.

RyansRx8 12-20-2009 11:23 PM

Aww yes can't go wrong with a speed6, nice pickup

Engine Problems, HELP! (simulation)

Q: Hey guys, I just bought this Rx8 with just under 50k miles and I was wondering if you could help me figure out what's wrong. By the way I'm new here. The problem is there's this sound coming from the engine, it sounds kinda like.... marbles in a can.

Where should I start?

A: Take it to the dealership and see if they can help you out.

Q: S***, the dealership says the engine's toast and since the previous owner did his own "maintenance" and never kept records of his oil changes, they say I have to pay for a new engine. I can't believe I bought this piece of crap, I hate rotary engines and I hate Mazda! F*** the RX8

A: Dude that sucks, I hope they help you out with a loaner while your engine's getting replaced.

I just hope the poor sap that ends up with your abused 8 gets a decent warranty!

See son, if there was no consequence to a hit and run, I'd have done it. But there ARE consequences. Especially if found out.

I'm not a complete moron. I'm just an asshole.

Yeah, I hope so too.

I'm sure that you're the type who completely restores a car with completely brand new parts before trading them in. I mean, it's only right!

Lebren 12-21-2009 12:34 AM

gl with the mazda6...

mazdaverx7 12-21-2009 06:10 PM

well, i guess its done and over with.. at this point with all that was said, i hope that the new owner is aware of the vehicle's condition.

Shijin-Kun 12-21-2009 06:50 PM

i feel sorry for the next owner of the rx8, if you were able to kill a rotary with 50k on the clock i fear for the MS6. And you sound like the type that would sell their own grandma for "business".

lack of power at 47000 miles? No compression check done? Could be nothing more than plugs and coils.

Worse than that I was even considering buying his car as he posted it on these forums 2 days before he posted this.. lol

https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8s-sale-wanted-43/2005-mazda-rx-8-6-speed-manual-touring-titanium-grey-187412/

He also says "All the recalls have been done on it. I am also very anal when it comes to maintenance, so you can be sure that the car has been treated with the best of the best. I don't skimp on maintenance, period. Mechanically, the car is flawless."

What a nice guy :nono:. Sorry if the threads to old, but 6 days shouldnt be an issue.

Oh man you bought my buddies MS-6 that he traded in!

He drove the living piss out of that thing but nobody ever told him to let the turbo cool off a few before parking it. Pretty sure the turbo is about to loose a seal and he just had our mechanic buddy of ours "tweak" the tranny as that was slipping before he traded it in. He had to get out from under it quick. Mechanic said the tranny should be good for a couple months if you take it easy though.

I hope you are learning something in College. If not, the real world is going to be a rude awakening. Either you are just acting like a fool in this post or you really need to pay attention in school. I hope it is the former rather than the later.

So much I could say, but I won’t waste my time since you won’t listen anyway.

BTW, nice choice on the new car. In a perfect world this would be true, and you would have no room to even complain.

LMAO! Bet you never even considered this. I'm sure you think this sort of stuff only happens to "other" people.

MICHGoBlue 12-28-2009 10:44 AM

OP puts a bad name to the asian community, the poor community, the college community, and the RX-8 community.

That being said, best of luck in school.

nycgps 12-28-2009 11:02 AM

ITs funny that this guy said he has no money for new engine, but instead he sold his 8, which doesnt worth to much to begin with, then he went and buy another car.

Poor college student ... yeah right.
