Glue from plastic still on car?

I picked up the car on Thursday nite.. they supposedly detailed it - It was 9pm, and raining a bit.. I didn't care to look it over too much. I signed the papers, and was off. Went back Friday nite for the dealer to go over everything with me- ya right.. At any rate, they were supposed to have detailed it then.. waited for an hour, went back to the detail dpt, they didn't even touch it/ Took it home, went to work Saturday, drove around Sunday.. Took it in at 5 last nite (monday) After waiting about 40min, my salesman said it was all finished.. I'm like ok, go check it out.. It looked clean, half *** to me (I used to detail and I knew 40min for a full detail was no way near satisfactory ) After arriving home, I'm in the garage looking it over, and I can see the glue still on the car from the plastic / like the residue from it, or whatever it is- Should I bother going back to the dealer to have them REALLY detail it?? Or will this come off with a good wash?

Thanks,

Joe

exactly where is it? Is it a line that runs along the bottom on both sides?

And it has been my opinion that the "detail" department at the dealership is there to spray windex on your car and wipe it off with an extremely abrasive, non-lint-free cloth. Save yourself a larger letdown than you have already experienced and spend a few days going over every inch of your RX-8 with a 100% made in the USA cotton cloth.

You can get some claybar (got mine from Zaino Bros) and it does a great job of removing any impurities from the surface of your car.

I noticed a line above the driver side handle, about 8inches long. 2" wide. and on the roof, closer to the rear window, is where most of the "glue" is. I know when I detailed, we used a mineral spirits oil.. and I remember (don't know if this is still true) that the "mineral spirits" is not good for the paint now a days..

I'll go over the full car.. I need to.

I had this glue residue all over my car. I tried quite a few different things to get it off. I think it sat in the sun at the port too long. I found it extremely hard to get it off of the gasket around my sun roof. What took it off best was turtle wax paste, the wax broke it down, then a dry cloth removed it. Do it yourself, it takes a lot of rubbing and you will take better care than they will.

I've got glue residue on my drivers side aluminum door trim plate thing. We noticed it was loose when we went to visit the car before PDI, and asked them to fix it, and the did but managed to get glue EVERYWHERE on the trim plate. It sems to be wearing off, so I'm not going to worry about it. As soon as I can walk, I'm going to spend an entire day cleaning and polishing, so I figure it'll all go away then. My husband wants to go back to the dealer and yell at them, but I'm not sure it's worth it over this.

Have any of you noticed a very slight white-colored line running near the bottom of the doors (front to back), and from the door through to the freestyle door?

I figured it was where there may have been that white plastic covering they put on the cars, however it doesn't appear to be glue of any sort and I wasn't sure how to remove it. The discoloration is slight and I think I'm the only one who has noticed as I know every inch of my RX-8.

trip you might be looking at the edge of the clear rock guard stuff that runs along the bottom of the car there. same stuff that is right in front of the rear wheel wells.

it doesn't appear to be the rock guard... ok, I just went out and look at it and it's an indent - I guess with the lighting it appeared to be a white line. My bad... it looks like a small indention under the door frame -- just another sytlistic and asthetic feature from the Mazda design folks.

don't know how well you can see it in the image..

hey tripwire i went and checked my car and you're right it is just a line running along there. it's almost just a thin"rib" in the paint. i did notice however that there is an extra patch of rock guard on the rear corner lower edge of the free style doors. hadn't noticed it there before.

What I did worked no problem.... go to drugstore, wallmart, hardware store, almost anywhere and get a little tube/bottle/kit of adhesive/stain remover. You know that stuff that takes off gum, sdhesives, blood, pen, marker, all that kind of stuff.

One I got was called 'Motsenbocker's Lift Off" Stain Removal Kit. takes off just about anything you get on anything. I think there is also an 'orange' product too, likely many others.

Put a little on a small piece of cloth, rub, wipe with another cloth.. all gone. Took 10 minutes of so to do the hood, back of the top, and the sunroof frame (the toughest part by far).

Reason I had it on my RX-8 is I was so eager to get my car, I had them unwrap it, wash it, said forget the detailing.... I just wanted to drive the thing and it was Friday night 5pm!!!
