yeah and it was running just fine before i had that changed, ive only had the car now like 2 months, and i bought it from a Mazda dealership. They told me the car was completely up to date, i found out a week ago that it had two open recalls, so i had them done immediately.

thanks been thinking of getting it done..... just not sure on the cost
As I read the TSB, they're supposed to check and do it to every RX-8 that they get their hands on, even ones that come in for routine maintenance, so it ought to be free.

Next time I get an oil change I'm going to bring a copy of the TSB along and ask if they've done it. My dealer never puts the stickers on, but they do track things.

question...

okee so i was just wondering if all rx-8 are eligible for the reflash?
i was looking at the bulletien on finishlineperformance and i noticed that my VIN number is part of the bulletien, does that mean i'm ineligible to get my '8 reflashed?

either call in to a dealership, OR stop by, and they will run your VIN to see what open recalls you have out for your car.

I have the MM tune on my cobb and after i got this flash it felt peppier in mid range.. maybe im going crazy!!!

My AFR on Stock MSP16

13.5@ 3-5K rpm
11.1@ 6K RPm and up

On MM tune
14.5-14.9 @3-5K rpms roughly
12's@ around 6K rpm and up with it diping to 11.1 around 6.5 K rpm and going back up to 12's

Motor mounts were replaced soo that could be it??? its hard to tell but anyone who hasnt gotten this GET IT its very much worth it

I got the reflash a while ago. Oil consumption is odd. Before the flash every time I got my oil changed I was about ~1/2 quart low. Now its going through a quart every 2,000-3,000 miles.

When I was running Dino I changed my oil every 2,500 miles. Now on synthetic its every 5,000 miles.

I was reading on this I got an 04, and I've had it since 06. I don't remember having any pcm reflashes when it was under my possesion. I called Auburn Valley Mazda (WA) and they said that it's not mandatory and they'd have ot check it? I thought it was a recall and that they would know about it? It should be free right?

04 with 40K miles - manual trans

What is the latest flash? I got mine done in Sept 08. Dealer said it was for 'improved performance'. Well, the performance did not improve (you can't get more torque out of a 1.3L rotary engine, period - and the thing always performed very well >4K rpm) but I lost 1.5 mpg and now I have this weird very high resonance vibration. The engine sounds more like Lauren Bacall than Beonce, if you know what I mean. A bit gravely. After running with this flash for 3K miles the vibration is now at a point to where at the end of my 30 minute morning commute my hands and feet feel like I've been in a low electrical field or something. Very strange buzzing sensation (and no I don't partake of any substance abuse during the commute).

Anyone else experience either the mpg drop or the weird sound/vibration situation?

^you already go the newest flash...all that vibration might be coming from a bad engine mount.

it is a recall, i had the dealer pull my recall history, noticed the 100k engine one on there too

the thing i am wondering is what is this doing exactly?

is it leaning things out and telling the oil metering system to spit more in? i dunno...someone on here has to know

I brought my car in today for an oil change, and got the MSP16 flash for FREE. Since its a recall, you get it even if you are out of warranty. The service mgr was nice and asked first before doing it...I guess some don't want it.

It did seem to run a little more smooth afterward, but I think a lot of that could have been in my head. Just like it feels your car is faster when its clean!

I took my RX8 in yesterday for some check engine light problem and they had to order a udpated fuel filler pipe. However, they did the msp16 update.

I think the car is slightly faster now but I can't really tell.
