gasoline smell = exhaust ?
Hey
New owner of an 05 rx8 GT mt
I realise that the previous owner had done some small mods to the car, painting the front/side grills, etc
I live in a condo, when i drive the car through the garage to get it outside i realise a faint but present smell of gasoline..
One thing i noticed, the tips of the mufflers on the car are aftermarket as they are clearly labeled 'RACTIVE'..
Im guessing that the previous owner actually swapped the stock exhaust for an aftermarket catback and that this is the reason for the smell..
What do you guys think?

i would say slight gasoline smell coupled without a huge increase in sound is a high flow cat.
i'd get under the car and let us know what the midpipe looks like. the midpipe connects the header to the exhaust and has an o2 sensor in it.

My '08 RX-8 smells of gas sometimes when I start it up. It is completely normal since like the previous poster said, it runs rich. It did that with the normal exhaust and continues with the mazdaspeed. Nothing to worry about.

hey guys, sorry for the long delay
No CEL's, from looking at the exhaust better it appears it looks all stock too.. the REVO engraving was just the muffler tips..
Aside from the smell, the car runs pretty well.. Im going to take it into the mazda dealership next week just to be sure..

Since when did catbacks change the exhaust smell? The midpipe would do this though. Im sure theres nothing wrong with your car , but if it helps you ease your worries go ahead and take it to the dealer.
