Once there was a mechanic at the exhaust shop who was wondering about my car... I (and another mechanic) tried to explain the engine to him.... he ended up thinking it had triangular pistons somehow.....

Just tell them it's got a caterpillar engine. No moving parts.
But seriously, aside from trying to explain what Wankel is, it is fun telling them that a normally aspirated 1.3L [80 cu. in.] engine can propel the car to 148 MPH, or accelerate from 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds or so.

Lmao What would the world be without the ricer-fans. Note that ricer-fans are not even ricers, but only fan of ricers... That's like lower than lowest.

A co-worker of my wife the other day saw me take her to lunch, when we got back he asked what my new car was. She told him and then he asked if it had a 4-cyl. She said "No, actually it doesn't have cylinders, it's a rotary".
God I love my wife :D
(Sad thing is this is a guy w/ a decent, slightly modded 350Z). She said he looked confused but stopped asking questions at that point.

LoL... being in high school, I have to deal with ricer fans too often. Its funny when they think my civic(2007, it's really my dads, but he's always out of town/country) is turbocharged. I gave up trying to explain to them how a redline is significant to performance- I just let them think its turbocharged. Even funnier is when one friend tries to explain how a turbo works to another friend. Scary is when one of the kids in your class tells you the proper response to sliding on ice is to crank his audi's steering all the way and floor the pedal- thank god for electronic assists in modern cars. His parents should have started his off with something a little less powerful, IMO.
Can't wait to get out of here, buy my own car (Rx7 or Rx8, no pistons either way), and come back and smoke another one of my friends who thinks he can drive his daddy's lexus. Course, I'd want my dream car for that....

i had my friend ask me the same question
-is it a v6 or a v8?
me-its a rotary
-oh...so is that like a v8?
me- it doesn't have pistons, or cylinders. It runs off a two rotor engine
-so its like a v8....
me- not really....
i don't think some people will ever get it. My mom still thinks ima little slow because i tell her my car doesn't run off of pistons. She has no idea how it runs and she refuses to believe that my car doesn't have cylidners

This conversation occurs atleast once a week:
Wow, nice car! Is that a V6?
Me: No.
V8?
Me: No.
It's a 4 Cylinder?
Me: No, it's a rotary engine.
Wait, what?
Me: Its a ******* lawn mower on steroids now STFU!
