Have any of you tried looking for this fuel filter underneath the car ? If you go to http://www.mazda-parts.com/partscat.html and type in "fuel filter" in the Keyword search...you will see it for $14.99. This is NOT the air filter....the air filter they sell here for $18. Would love to hear what you guys have to say. Thanks for taking the time to read my post!
Would help if they included the part number, but its likely this component:
The Mazda IPB also labels this component as an air filter.

Lol...I just quoted what the guy said to me. I never said that I have actually seen this "canister-type fuel filter" that he was talking about.
Yeah...I think you are right. What you showed me there looks like #6 in this pic
Is this canister air filter visible underneath the car ? I've never noticed it
In the link you provided, they do mention that filter as being an "air filter"

Damn.. I hope my engine isn't dieing. Sounds like you were having slightly different problems than I've been having. Last night I tried starting my car and it wouldn't start, I'm scared shitless right now lol. It cranks but it wont start...can't be my ignition system because I'm running a BHR kit. Car has over 100K miles, but a new engine was put in by mazda back in 2005. Hopefully changing the fuel pump solves this problem.
