My buddy works at a local dealership and gives me a call today.

"Hey man, I know you're into rotaries, we have an RX7 engine and trans here, do you want them?"

I guess a service advisor of this dealership who quit 8 years ago left this engine and trans there. From what we've heard he sold the RX7 shell and just never came back for the engine and trans. So I'm getting them for free! haha.

At first, they told me it was an REW motor . I about fell over. After more research it is an N/A FC motor with an automatic trans. The motor was losing compression and the trans was in perfect working order. More than likely the motor needs apex seals.

Long story short, I scored a free motor and trans today! My buddy and I are gonna start tearing down the motor to see what's wrong with it. Once we rebuild it we'll start searching for an RX7 shell and Ill have a new RX for my collection

Any local Chicago members who want to help out once we start tearing down the motor, let me know!

Damn u lol j/k i wish i could run into that i run into the same prob with distance also....damn maybe i'll just find and FD along side of the road that says free haha!!!

yea for sure, oh man I was on cloud 9 for a while when my buddy told me it came out of an FD. I thought I was getting an REW swap

Yea it'll be a fun project, it'll give me an opportunity to learn more about the rotary since I've never had this kind of opportunity to take apart a rotary engine.

 

I'm mad I was coming to this thread expecting a giveaway, you did not deliver!

Definately, Once I find the time to get down to the dealership its at Ill take pics of the motor and trans (pics or it didnt happen) then update the thread periodically as we tear apart the motor.
