FNG (Effin New Guy)
Just got a 2004 RX-8 ( 1.3L - 6-speed Manual) about 2 months ago and was curious to what the actual horse power on my car is. I've looked around and it seems like there are many different ratings on the RX-8's. Also, I'm not sure If I have a GT or is it just a regular RX-8 or what determines that?
p.s. Gas mileage sucks on the RX-8. But now that i'm on this site, I accept that fact because I'm sure you all experience my pain at the gas pump as well (><)

All RX8's are 1.3L. There is no (Proven) HP difference between the Sport or GT models, that I am aware of. As for your car - Dyno it. Every car here seems to be pushing different numbers, but this is all because of miles, maintenance, modifications, etc. done to that particular engine.
Another factor is what Dyno is being used (Mustang and Jet ones are pretty popular here I believe).
This thread really doesn't belong in this forum... I am sure an Admin will move it. None the less, welcome to the Forums! Your going to love this car!
Word of advice - Use the Search button as much as possible before throwing up a thread regarding problems or anything.

If you have a manual transmission RX-8 you can assume it's in the 190 whp range. It can vary quite a bit, so you might be as low as 170-ish or as high as 200-ish. I think 190 is pretty normal though.

I'm guessing he saw specs for international models when he searched because there were different power ratings for different models in other countries. That's why you'll see a lot of people talking about the high power model and the low power model if they're from europe or asia.

I would say 190whp is normal-high. I have seen / heard of quite a few people getting as low as 150. Once mine is all fixed up I'm going to hit up a dyno and see what it tells me!

Good info Marie! However there were some variation for different years. For your year check the stickie on the variations. However in general Marie hit it dead on.

I am fairly new too with a 2004 and I was expecting worse mpg. I get combined 20 and when i drive between Tampa and Orlando I get about 25 mpg. Thats calculated with a few real hard runs right after I fill up and then I drive fairly nice the rest of the tank. My car has pretty much everything but the GT package. Which package does the Nav fall into? Not like i use the old DVD based system just curious.

Navigation is one of the only options. But I thought it was only available if you purchased the GT package. So you are saying you don't have the gt package but you have the nav? My guess is that it was added later or something along those lines

SO I must have the GT then. I've got Nav, Heated Leather seats, automatic dimming rear view mirror, ect. I like the sound of Rx-8 GT.
Another curiousity of mine is: does anyone know how many miles the Rx-8 is expected to last without expensive repairs? I bought mine at 109,000 miles =/ it seems to be running great but a few friends of mine who claim they know cars say that i'm lucky it's even made it this far...

Ok that makes more sense. I don't know why but somewhere along the road I got it in my head that it was only on gt's. Maybe because it is more often on those.

Yeah it's an '04 and I've heard that from another person too, that '04's tend to last longer. Does anyone know what that is?

Also, I've heard your suppose to let the engine warm up until opporating temperature (regardless of how hard it is outside) before you drive to prevent the engine from flooding. Is there any other precautions i should be aware of so my engine doesn't Flood?
