Floormats

I have had my 8 for a week now and have nothing but good things to say about it except for the floor mats. These thinks are so shitty. I think cardboard would stand up better than these things. After one week they are already showing wear, were I put my heels. Are the premium ones any better or should I find an apostlry(sp) shop to maybe stich me some high quality vinyl where they are wearing. I really dont want to have to buy new floormats every couple of months because I wear through them.

Isn't "high quality vinyl" an oxymoron?

Give the guy a break. I ordered vinyl seats for a truck recently. They resist scuffing and dirt better than leather and look and feel about the same.

The premium mats are better, I have them, and I like them so far.

Are the premium mats the ones that have RX8 written all over them? If so I think they are a bit on the tacky side.

I'd have to agree with that. But doesn't Mazda offer a set of black rubber mats? They're called "all weather" or something like that.

The stock mats really are poor quality - mine are already showing wear after only 1700 miles.

Edit: Nobody I checked has a picture of the mats, but they're called "all weather mats," they're made of black vinyl (high quality, I hope) and the Mazda part number is 0000-8B-K02A. Rosenthal has them for $55.

I wish they hadn't tacked up the premium mats. I'd just go with them otherwise.

The premium mats are nice quality, but a bit garish.....I'd get the rubber all weather mats.

So nobody has opinions on getting some vinyl sewn onto the floormats right were my heels hit? I think that would be a cheep solution that probably wouldnt look to bad. I think I could get some sewn in with the rx-8 logo sewn into the middle of them for a decent price. I will investigate and post some pics if I get it done.

I just use a pair of small, rectangular clear plastic rear floor mats that I had laying around from an earlier, generic set... I put them to cover the area where my heels are and where the front passenger's feet rest on the floor.
Since they are clear, they don't take too much away from the looks and work perfectly to protect the factory floor mats.
They stay in place well too.

Chill out, I was just kidding. And, vinyl should be more durable than cloth or leather...it's essentially plastic!

The floormats in my TT started to show signs of wear very early too and I wasn't a big fan of the plush ones they also offered since they looked a bit overdone in the TT (IMHO). I have the winter mats for the winter but I'd rather bear the cost of eventually replacing my "summer" mats than sew vinyl into them.

Besides, vinyl seats in a truck vs. vinyl mats in a sports car are apples and oranges, no?

My stock mats are fine after nearly 12000 miles. You guys must have teeth on your heels. :D

I hope this picture works. These are the floor mats I want. They look pretty high quality, but I'll be damned if they're worth $420.95 from jt-imports. I'd be willing to spend a little more than a hundred bucks for such a mat set, but that's all I would think it's worth. Plus, I don't know if these were designed for LHD or not. Thy're so cool, it's just a shame they cost too much.

Well Im not talking about complete vinyl floor mats. On my grand cherokee I used to have on the floormats they had a small square of vinyl where your heels would hit. That is all I want to do in a black or grey color to match the carpet. Not the whole thing. I think I could get it done for like 20 bucks or so. If it would look shitty, I would not do it, but if I think it would look good then I am for sure going to do it.

I got after market mats from California Car cover. The quality is better than stock though not the best that I have ever seen. They cost me about 80 bucks with shipping for four, and the fit was very well done. They are carpet.

They absolutely would not sew anything other than my initials into the mat. Apparently, Ford sues over trademark infringement at the top of a hat, and after several conversations with the manufacturer, the sales guy and I gave up.

Still, I love my new mats. They are way better than the ones that came with the car. - H

I like this! This would have fit into my negotiations great.

I asked them for just an "8" since the number itslef has never been used this way in any of Mazda's advertising and therefore cannot be a registered trademark. They said no. I said, OK, how about an infinti symbol. They just laughed and said "forget it old man." It wasn't going to happen so I dropped it. However, I still dig the mats.
