Insurance rates aren't determined by horsepower. They are determined by age/value of vehicle, vehicle category, driver age/risk/experience level and a few other factors.
Having a new Rx-8 even with less HP than a used Supra will be more on insurance I'm sure.
When I was 20 I bought my first car an 85 cavalier insurance was still like 1K a year with no collision or anything. When I turned 21 it dropped (never had an accident) but I bought a 2000 Tiburon and now that I'm 24 it's still 1K a year!
Should drop dramatically when I hit 25 the majic age for insurance rates.
