I wasn't sure where else to check for these questions, and google wasn't really helping;

1) My 8 did not seem to come with a rod to check the level of engine oil. Is that normal? Is this rod located somewhere else in the engine bay (I looked around, found nothing). If it's not normal, where can I get the rod?

2) The cap is labeled 5W-20, I'll assume that's what is in there already. I looked around this forum and a few people say it's pretty good. Should I continue with 5W-20?

3) I'm supposed to be checking oil levels every two fillups, and changing the oil after 3k miles, right?

I think the questions would be covered in the manual, but I actually don't have a manual right now. I'm going to go to a Mazda dealership sometime this weekend to pick one up. Does anyone know if I'll have to pay for one?

Google will find you a PDF of the owner's manual. Searching this forum will find you everything else.

1. Remove the engine cover. Stand on the left side of the car. Look at the oil cap. Move your gaze down toward you. You should see the dipstick. Or the tube where the stick goes. If you don't have a stick, you can buy one at the dealer.

2. No telling what's in there now, but 5w20 is what Mazda USA recommends. Poke around this site for other opinions.

3. Right.

Owner's manual is really handy. You'll have to pay a dealer for one. But you can get a pdf for free. Go to mazdausa.com and register in the owner's section. You'll then be able to download a pdf version. You should also be able to download the Quick Tips guide, which gives summary info on some very useful stuff.
