What might help is to be able to make the distinctions between different types of offensive remarks as defining it all as "racist" in a blanket fashion does nothing to educate people on matters of sensitivity and empathy. What "simplyphp" posted wasn't racist, it was offensive in the sense that is used a person's username as a launch point for a non-sequitur remark that the OP found offensive. No too hard to explain that remarks which have nothing to do with the context of the thread run the risk of offending somebody who doesn't understand the personality of the one making the remark.

Had I said it I doubt anybody would have thought it racist but that is the nature of human politics and I just celebrated my 5th anniversary on the RX8Club..............

Distasteful and racist are only sometimes the same thing. "Terrorist" is not a race of people and to assume so makes the listener, not the speaker, one who equates behavior with race. Terrorism is actually a type of behavior/activity which is used to illicit fear in the populace and manipulate governments/socities into a particular reaction.
