Scary huh, and all thanks to suckers who believe what the media and government feed us.
But insurance companies are ruled by the Almighty Dollar. They only get picky with kids because kids cost them more money than adults.

I think you should avoid racing trucks too.

Street racing has been around along time, at least back to the fifties. I guess the difference is cars did not go quite as fast and it wasnt so crowded. I guess what I am saying is racing is somewhat in our blood if you have a competitive spirit. Back in high school we used to race on an old road near LAX airport all the time keeping an eye out for cops.

Racing through crowded city streets is dangerous for sure, we never did that. But a little drag from stoplight to stoplight wasnt uncommon.

We also used to do time trials driving through Mulholland Dr., it was a regular saturday night thing. It was almost sponsored! Trying to see who could do the fastest run from one end to the other. Datsun 240z's did very well.....

When I hear about a death while street racing I think it is sad, especially if non participants are involved. All you can do is hope that the survivers of street racing gorw out of it and move on.

Keep in mind that in California now, if you race another car, the driver is a noob and plows into a wall and dies and somebody catches your license plate, you can be charged with murder...

If it's in traffic, some one reving is just a way of sayin they admire your car - grin and let that old vacuum answer them back - but don't do anything stupid.

Some places , like outside of a college, may result in more challenges, know locations and avoid them

On country roads it's fun to play with trucks - they lose it on the hills and curves-

Most dangerous idiots thus far are teenage wanna bees, and spoiled looking middleaged ladies that must be going thru menopause and can't handle the change in their testosterone levels - if they can't win they want to run into other cars - sort of spoiled kid stuff! Had one miss a curve and end up in a field and we were going less than 60!

Only trouble with racing in an 8 is you get there faster than you expect to and just need more clear road ahead.

And remember a Samari has self control - he doesn't need to run after every punk who challanges him yelling "my swords been folded 10,000 times!"

There must have been a grandma behind the wheel of the M3. There's no way an 8 will "blow away" an M3 on the track...

Why not? Maybe there was a problem with the M3. Reliability is part of racing also. It's not always the driver......JMHO

Wait, is this more parking lot racing or an actual track where speeds get up over 100mph?

Yes, in Seattle, virtually everyone (and apparently their grandma too) wants to race my 8.

I don’t race but I was sorely tempted recently.

An old lady in a Honda Hybrid gave me the eye and gunned it in a 30 mph zone.

I thought, you have got to be kidding.

I maintained the speed limit and thank goodness because just as the Hybrid flew past me at about 50, a police officer became visible through a veil of trees. He was obviously monitoring the road for speeders.

He stared at my 8 the whole time and never glanced at the Hybrid, even as the old lady was jamming on her brakes.

Hey Seattle, was that hybrid blue?

I had a Honday hybrid a few weeks ago do the same thing, now that I definitely wouldn't bother with. Glad to hear I'm not just imagining these things.

M3 > 8 on the track....sadly
(according to this video)
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...91738555&q=rx8

I see alot of WIDE turns from the RX-8 driver, and I think it would've done ALOT better if it had a different driver.....just my $0.02

This guy knows how to drive an RX8.

I think RX8 can handle an M3, if your a better driver than that person. Not beat it, but come pretty damn close.

A couple months ago I did an HDPE at VIR (as did a couple others here). For 2 laps I was all over an M3. For most of the course I was muttering "Get the hell out of my way," but in the longer straight he'd pull ahead a couple car lengths. You can't pass in turns during an HPDE - otherwise I'd have left him in the dust. The 8 takes twisties much better than an M3.

I find revving back, acting anxious (inching toward the line) and then watching them tear away from the stop light as I drive normal is fun.

To each his own, Jack.

Not too trusting of other drivers or their equipment on public roads with potentially harmful debris or shoddy road conditions...

oh and it is illegal.

I'm not trying to make a point or anything. I'm just curious.

I think this depends on the person...I have a '96 vette along with the 8 and win or lose, I'll be happy to race anyone at a track just for the adrenalin rush...on the street I think most people who do this have confidence or self esteem problems...in the 8 it's easier to ignore...I usually point to my two kids in the back and invite them to the next track day or autocross event I'm attending.

All these judgemental people. As if street racing is really the largest contributor of traffic related injuries. Just like with anything, you can do things responsibly or irresponsibly.

I'll race if challenged, but only on open highways, only in a straight-away, and only up to around 70mph. The speedlimit is 55mph and everyone goes at 70 anyway, so really where is the added harm? While racing I have strict concentration on my environment and everything I'm doing, I can guarentee I am less likely to cause a wreck accelerating to 70 while racing then your average driver cruising along at 70 and talking on the cell phone, or reading, or putting on make-up, or any of the other things I see people do everyday while driving. I'll wonder how many people looking down their nose at streetracers do those things while driving? Get off your soapbox!

So provoking someone else to be a jackass and break the law is a good idea?
