well S2 was never sold in large volume so they didnt have the money for R&D to make a new car.
Mazda was never a big car manufacture.

Going back to the op's post.
3 points about the design.

1. I don't like how the steering wheel points slightly off center it points about 1"-2" to the left of center more towards your heart then the middle of your rib cage.

2. I don't like it the sun visor mirror points way over your right shoulder and they could easily make it straight.

3. When it rains you get a cool bubble that appears in the groves on the bonnet/hood (if you wax it) that I cannot decide if it is really cool or really distracting especially as you swerve to try to get rid of it.

LOL!! I thought I was the only one that tries to get rid of the rain water that collects there on the grooves of the hood. I call it my puddle buddy!

Tried to snag a shot of it last time it rained.

yea its unfortunate they don't have mercedes like money to throw around, they've got great ideas. but they invest their time in wonderful things and give us cars like the 7 and 8 with an almost damn the expense attitude lol. i don't think they're in any danger of going anywhere and have a bright future, even with the rotary :P

It's off center and your legs kinda go off the the left too. Not straight to the pedals. Does not really bug me, but I noticed it.

My computer room overlooks the driveway. As I spend countless hours on rx8club I cant help but shoot glances to my left all the time to check her out.

^ You should make a thread about "What could the RX-8 be" and put these there. I don't know the first thing about photoshop but those look really cool. Maybe other people could put up some cool stuff they made.

the RX8 was merely an experiment of the new rotary engine design. it was based on the MX5 with some changes to the body.
you can say each RX car is an experiment.

hence Rotary eXperiment #8 :P lol i think they executed it well and it fit in with what the company needed at the time, they know they have strong sports car sales with the miata and couldn't afford to bring another $40k+ rotary car out again. they kept it cheap and although i think build quality did suffer a little bit, the RX8 was a good refoundasioning (i just made that up and i'm sticking with it lol) of the idea of a rotary for everyone and allows them to build different and better vehicles with it later

just two weeks in on owning her, I feel like its the honeymoon phase. I hate getting out of the car and always stare at her in disbelief that she's actually mine.

1. I think the S1 lights are bit too crazy. They are really cool looking but the S2 made them look way better with the LEDS. The whole alteza thing is just played out. That is the only thing I would change on the S1 and God help you if you get moisture in them. They look like cheap e-bay knocks off when that happens.

2. As for the S2 I would have kept the S1 front end. It looks way better. The whole joker smiley face thing with the S2 is not so good.

3. This is for the S2, but the stock and GT wheels are fugly. They should have stayed with the 5 stars. The R3 is dead on.

Other than those minor complaints the RX-8 is still coolest looking thing on the road. I’m glad Mazda took a risk with the design. It is way better than the ovals driving around all the time.

+1 one on the puddle on the hood. That drives me nuts for some reason.

Every single time I get out of her I ALWAYS look back...esp now that I just got tint. lol
If i go out to eat I make sure I can see her if shes parked next to anyone but otherwise I just park reeeeally far away from everyone.
My friend goes, I can't really knock you for being obsessed with your car....I'm obsessed with my Sig Sauer...lol Believe me..once I get my PX4 storm I'll have another obsession lol

Since I've put the Bilstein PSS9 suspension with a modest drop, she's more beautiful than she ever was. I loved the car since I got her over a year ago as a birthday gift to myself and never regretted it!
