England's RX Experience

RX is a premium car here in UK - we're paying around £25,000 on avg for a 231ps with leather, thats about $47,000 USD. So you guys are doing so well. Getting mine in 2 weeks - black, w black-red leather. Had a test drive and it was sweet. Best car I've EVER driven, and i've tested 911s and Audis. We have the kind of Mazda dealer here who will take the demo right up to the redline and hit 130mph. Insane country, but we like our cars, and we like a good fight in Foriegn parts now and again. ;-) Rock on the UK-USA relationship.

Overport 02-21-2004 01:35 PM

wow....i am happy for you:) . i hope the dealers break in their cars (600 miles) before running them to redline and 130 mph, otherwise, they might be selling you a defective car (maybe not now, but definitely in the future). Make sure you let them know of this.

Overport 02-21-2004 01:37 PM

oh yeah... and as you can see from my signature, i got mine FULLY loaded with the exception of navigation and i got it for $29,500. It makes you really wonder how cheap they can get it in japan for......

jono6395 02-21-2004 03:51 PM

yeah, the dealer wanted to sell me the demo he'd burned out the 17 inchers and redlined the engine everyday from new...just because of scarcity. It was fully loaded, and nice, but without a complete wheel refit and a new engine...NO WAY!!! Yeah, you're right to say throw this back at em, but they dont care here. RXs are just flying off the forecourts. Folks love em.

im not surprised that 8's are popular there. i heard the z and crossfire werent doing too good because of bad reviews by top gear.

boothguy 02-21-2004 05:14 PM

jono, I was all set to express my envy to you, tossing your 8 around those narrow, twisty lanes in the Cotswolds, or on a leisurely drive through the heather-covered hills of Hampshire, or romping through the Lake District... But then I saw "..$47k US" and my little mental symphony hit a sour note.

Well, it'll still be a ton of fun, and those of us fortunate enough to be able to enjoy them for our measly $30k will respect your enthusiasm for the 8 all the more.

Trust me on this, guys. If we were able to enjoy our 8s on the kind of roads jono has within easy reach, we'd be living in our cars.

Jono

I reasearched UK prices a year ago when I was considering an '8. At that time a GT Rx-8 was 24,000 pounds, with an exchange rate closer to 1.55 as I recall, so it was about $37k. The fact that the dollar is now at 1.9 to the pound distorts the picture here.

The '8 is very competitively priced in the UK, and significantly less that the 350z for instance. Not surprising they're flying off the lots (except that gas mileage must be a big issue there)

Every post you've made has been about how great the 350z is and how glad you are you didn't buy the RX-8. So, basically, you're a troll. If I see this again, you're banned, no questions asked.

pr1vateer 02-22-2004 09:41 AM

WOW.......touchy touchy.....Hey be honest not every post, I like the 8....I just like the Z better.....oops...banned I guess.

Icanrel-8 02-22-2004 10:14 AM

Hey, Jono,

Congrats! Welcome! It sure says a lot when you have to pay more and you get an 8 anyway. Happy motoring and enjoy the car for many years. :) Thanks for the other bit-- we love our friends across the pond.

Pr1vateer-- we have members who favor other vehicles, but they have something to contribute to the discussion. That's what defines the difference between trolls and others. Anyway, resistance is futile-- assimil8 :D

A lot of you do like your cars, and you get some great ones, but far too many Brits don't like their cars. I guess they're the insane ones. Great roads, and far, far too many Gatso speed cameras to be reasonable - it's passed long ago into revenue generation instead of safety, and car haters are on the rise (like some of the ridiculous congestion charging schemes, just more tax grabs on the backs of car lovers). Even Ireland is getting in on the speed cameras in the last couple of years, maybe remote parts of Scotland or Wales are still safe for enthusiasts?

Regards,
Gordon

jono6395 02-22-2004 02:19 PM

Yes, lots of namby pamby boring car haters in UK, but I live out west where we can still hunt and fish. Gatso's are ritually pulled down. RX-8s are at home here, and because a/ they're not german, and b/ people make way for you to pull out of road junctions if you're not in a german car. c/ because RXs are simply kool. The only , and I mean the ONLY case for a 350 is the rag top version. And then we're talking about a poof's car anyway. So.

Nubo 02-22-2004 02:59 PM

Wow! Where's the extra money going? VAT? Exchange rate (£/¥)? Supply vs. demand?

jono6395 02-22-2004 04:12 PM

Mazda is creaming the exchange rate, and they deserve to as they make damn fine cars.

eg car costs about 17000USD to make, sells on for 45000USD in uk.

glorfindeal 02-22-2004 04:29 PM

The 8 is outselling the 350z (hardtop.)
Um, I am not glorfindeal, this is RXSE7EN. Goofy forum.

pr1vateer 02-22-2004 06:28 PM

Tut tut tut , Jono your gonna give us brits a bad name if you keep on brown nosing like that....Most brits love there cars even if most cant afford an 8 so if you aint go anything nice to say about the poor old working class brit and merry ol England........Get the F@#%K out. Oh and by the way...most of those speed cameras dont have film in them .

Jeez stuck up gits like you really piss me off.

Ok so now ban me.

Nice tho huh.................

resman 02-22-2004 08:58 PM

You could've had that Z years ago, it's called "AUDI TT".

93rdcurrent 02-22-2004 11:02 PM

And to add I think the Celtic term would be poof da. And the 350Z does have "that" kinda muscle car feel to me. The kind that you would expect the pretty boys to be driving away from a pub called Spike where the men were chaps and white t's... you get the picture I'm sure.
