Engine rattle & blower volume

Just wondering if anyone has experienced these things before I take my car to the dealer to look at them. For all I know they may be considered normal. First off, my engine has developed a rattling sound that is most noticeable at lower vehicle speeds and ranging from engine speeds of idle and up. Most noticeable when revving engine from normal driving or when accelerating from a stop.
The second thing is the blower. When on the floor setting, it certainly doesn't
blow the same volume of air as it does on the panel setting and you can hear the sound of blowing air from the dash defroster vents, though it's not blowing out of there at all.
Well, while I'm at it, is anybody's passenger side front seat rattling too? I thought I saw a thread on here about it, but I can't find it.

when ever you have the fan distribution set to floor the defroster is Always on even if it doesnt show that it is. so you can never get the same volume of air flowing from the fllorr as you can from the dash vents.

rattle- have you switched gas grades recently or brands? is your car in the vin range for the transmission damper bracket recall?

Thanks for the feedback, zoom44. I have used Mobil 93 octane from day one, with a few times at different gas stations. The Mobil station is 1 mile from my house. Never have I went below the recommended 91 octane. Heck, I can't even remember if I've dropped below 93! I haven't heard about this transmission damper bracket recall. What is the vin range?

Actually, it sounds like spark knock, come to think of it.

Looks like my car is included in the transmission damper bracket recall. I looked at the underside of the hood and I see no recall sticker affixed, so maybe it hasn't been taken care of.

A sticker may or not be relevant..

Can we get a little more info on your car? Like build date and update level?

go to www.mazdausa.com click on owners and register . you will need your vin. once you're in you can view any recall work that needs to be done.

Build date is 8/03. Nothing has been done to the car since I bought it in May this year, except for an oil change I did myself (I work at a car repair facility). I did get a notice from Mazda just the other day about a PCM update that I need to take the car to the dealership for.

Forgot to mention in the last post that I registered at Mazda's website and it says that there are no recalls to be performed on my car.

ok thats good. at least you know the recall work has been done. set up the service appointment for the pcm upgrade. tell them about the noise you are hearing that sounds like knock. i dont think it is since that SHOULD throw a code and CEL.
