wow, no need to attack me mate.

Here in the UK our owner's guide may be different but it doesn't even mention the cold rev limiter. I'm on an 04 plate though.

That would be awesome! HAH. I never got the dvd when I got the car but Mazda was nice enough to send me one when they upped the powertrain warranty the first time.

I'm on the updated starter and 2nd engine...some guys must have all the luck!

OMG, my first reaction to this thread was...POOR RX-8, and still is, WHY anyone would buy a car and drive it only 5 minutes, with it's longest trip only 20 minutes!...

Your car is only just fully warm at 20 minutes!, your thermostat would not even be open in a 5 minute trip.

Then the CARBON....poor car, start revving the **** out of it or sell it to someone who will appreciate it...this is not a car to be nannied...

that part was not really aimed at you, but more so the guy that told you not to redline the car cold. you were getting advice from someone that has not read the DAMN OWNERS MANUAL! and 5 to 7 minutes will not do it.

did you look at this section?

i think i took the time to post it before.

really you need to do some work on your own.. or buy a golf cart.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment.

I just wanted to clarify something. I misquoted above, I didn't mean to say that "i wish that mazda would have told me to warm up my car first before redlining".
I accidently clicked on the quote button, instead of just a "post" button. I never said I was any forum expert, or good at computers, in fact I'm pretty lousy at both.

What I meant so say was that I wish someone would have told me when I purchased the vehicle that I needed to take it up to 7500 RPM on a regular basis. Normally this is not done on regular cars. I understand that the RX8 is not a typical vehicle, but still if I'm a person who's asking the quesion, there must be others who don't know this as well. If it's in the manual, then I admit its my fault LOL. But still, most car buyers will not read their manuals no matter what the vehicle is. Most would not expect to have to do this. I also wish that you don't be so rude to other guy who was trying to help me out (the guy from the UK). I apprecite him making an effort to help me, and if I knew him in real life - I'd give his kids braces for free (I'm soon to graduate).

Another thing is - I don't understand why some on this forum keep telling me to drive this car aggressively (like a sports car). It's my right to drive it how I want to. Just like I'm not telling you to drive it unaggressively - its your right to do whatever you want.

Thanks also for pointing out the FAQ link - I visited it already the first time you posted it.

The problem is 'enamel' if you drive any rotary too gently, nurse it, or don't rev the crap out of it regularly you are carbon-ing up the engine, rotaries are designed to be revved, the longer you drive them the better, short distance driving and low engine RPM are the worse combination you can give your car.

I am not trying to alarm you , but you will be lucky to get another 10,000 miles before the engine dies on you if you continue to drive it conservatively.

did not mean to be rude to you, but the guy in the uk gave you bad advice.. what if someone gives you bad advice and you break something? is that ok? or should someone correct it?

now to the driving it the way you want it. you can drive it anyway you want, but if you dont drive it hard every now and then you will have issues that will cost you money.

it is that simple.. you can run it hard semi often and the motor and you win = spend less money..

or not so much and post up on how the motor is bad, and it costs a lot of money..

now you have the knowledge, you can decide. but understand you are researching after the buy. never a good idea.

and if most dont read the owners manual, why should they listen to you after you take the time to put braces on there kid. it should all be perfect with no effort, correct? adjustments, silly.. it was done.

beers

swoope, i'm not here to argue, but I just said not to redline when the engine is still cold, as this will prevent undue wear in any engine. That's the reason why mazda put a cold rev limiter in there, to prevent damage. And generally after 5-7 minutes, this is enough time for the cold rev limiter to turn off, thus giving you the full capability to use the entire rev range. I know it will not be fully warm at this stage, but if the cold limiter is not kicking in, surely it would be safe.

now if i have misguided anyone here I am truly sorry, and stand to be corrected.

see,

that is kinda the point.. you cant over rev the motor cold..

try it.. it will make you laugh and smile when you do. or if you learn by pulling out into oncoming traffic i bet one would have wished he or she had read the damn manual!

you knew nothing about the note in the owners manual.. i bet you looked to see if it was there.. it is..

this is a simple point. i dont give any help about turbo tunning, but i do understand it. but i dont know! so i read and learn.

so i dont say what i think might be right.

i would rather say what is known and accurate or not post at all. and sometimes when i see something wrong or stupid, well i have my moments..

interested in de badgeing?

and it is not a cold rev limeter, it is a ecu fuzzy logic read all the sensors and then tell the car what to do.. driver be damned..

beers
