Engine over-haul at 100,000 milage

I just want to know whether this is true?

I heard it from a friend who owns a rotary engine car too.. :/

StealthTL 06-24-2010 01:41 AM

What would an overhaul entail?

Taking apart a perfectly running motor?

Never heard of a rotary 'overhaul'.....

S

rena910 06-24-2010 02:02 AM

me neither, maybe just some false rumors :/

I was told that the engine needs to be overhaul, sumthin' to do with cleaning the internal parts :S

Dirt_Nasty 06-24-2010 02:06 AM

100,000 would be a good time for a Rebuild, perhaps ceramic APEX seal replacement as well :P, it's a good idea any way, but mainily IMO because core warrenty runs out then, why now start a new?

Twiztog43 06-24-2010 02:53 AM

well if its still running perfectly fine, then why not wait till it does fail. there's really no point in fixing something that isn't broken.

CTrx8 06-24-2010 06:22 AM

this is correct. all rotaries have a self-destruct button at 100K miles and mazda requires you turn them in for a rebuilt one.

just thought i would toss in another false rumor since the one you stated is posted on here way too often.

RIWWP 06-24-2010 06:43 AM

I thought the self-destruct was 30,000 miles or 1,723 gallons of oil, whichever comes first.

OP, I could see people choosing to get their engine rebuilt at 100,000 miles, since it isn't covered under warranty at that point anyway, but only if they are doing to have it rebuilt for improvements. If you are just having it pulled apart to look at it, that's an expensive window show.

do you have an rx8 or not?
or are you getting one?
if you drive a Honda, I dont see the point of asking this.

100k is the perfect time to add forced induction.

I heard it from a friend who heard it from Jeremy Barnes, allegedly.

What do you mean btw please elaborate. They require it when the compression goes below a certain point. Series 1 (04-08) engine warranty has been extended to 8 years or 100,000 on the vehicle reguardless of the owner.

RIWWP 06-24-2010 11:53 AM

Chuck Norris rebuilds his MS 8 engine every 6,000 miles. MacGuyver schooled him in how to do a complete rebuild with a toothpick, pair of tweezers, and a rubber band.
