Engine light and clutch

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, I searched and did not find what I was looking for.

I have had my 8 for a little over a week now. A light came on sporatically for a couple days and went away. Now its on and staying on. Not sure if its the cel or what. It is thi light located DIRECTLY under the temp needle. Its an ! inside of an odd bubble or circle or something...not sure what it means. Can anybody help me out?

Secondly, how stiff are stock 2004 rx8 clutches? I thought they would be quite soft and smooth. Mine however is rather stiff. Im used to cable clutches and stage 3 act clutches so I actually like it. I am just curious because it is really hard to make a "smooth" shift. The transition is usually rather bumpy. Like the clutch is really grabbing I guess. But it wasnt even like that with my act clutch. Mazda thing? or is it going out? There is also a squeaking noise at the end when you push it all the way in. Doesnt bother me to much, just want to make sure its nothing big. Saw something about a clutch switch. Does that NEED to be replaced? or can it just stay like that?

Whew, ok thanks. Glad I dont already have a CEL.

I read a post on here about somebody that was having somewhat the same clutch inquiries and I think the dealer told him the clutch and throw out bearing were going out. Maybe I will find that thread and pm the op and see what happened.

If im cruising in any gear an let off the gas its real bumpy. Kind of jerks a little bit. Same thing when I get back on it. Dont know if that may be something with the clutch, or mabye the ignition system....Other than that, Im LOVING my 8!

how many miles on your car? if the clutch was going out, I would think you would experience slipping

I compared the clutch pedal in my '07 with an '04 and an '05 8 and the effort it takes to press down the clutch pedal is much greater than in my car, so it may be normal.

As for the squeaky clutch pedal, get that checked out. There is a thread on here that says when your clutch pedal starts squeaking, there is a good chance your clutch pedal is going to break soon. The entire pedal assembly breaks off of the fire wall, so you won't be able to drive your car if that happens.

Car has 113,000 on it. A little high I guess, but a HELL of a lot better than what i was driving before.lol

And wow, sounds like I really do need to get that checked out. It doesnt slip at all, it just feels like its either catching really hard, or theres maybe some ignition component malfunctioning that makes it kind of jerky at first when letting off or getting into the throttle.

*and thanks so much for the replies guys
