Engine cooling fan won't stop after engine shut down

09 RX8. Had 3 incidences of shutting down the engine, only for the fan to keep going... on and on.... and on....

timed it to around 5-10 mins before I had to jump into the car and put the key into the ignition, and turn it all the way but without starting it. That stopped the fan.

Anyone had this issue or is the fan suppose to go on for more than 10 mins (while draining my battery!)
