Engine check light on my 2007 Rx8 already!?!?

Well my Check Engine light just came on and I only have 187 miles on the car. I mean I didnt do anything wrong to the car except stall a few times. Its really bugging me, car feels fine, anyone else encounter this problem?

It's probably nothing. Did you just fill up the car and not tighten the gas cap? That's a common reason the check engine light goes on.

Go to your local dealership. They shouldn't charge you anything, and they can do a computerized engine check in like 5 minutes.

With 187 miles on the car, I really would be shocked if anything was actually wrong with your RX-8.

try resetting the computer. Also check that your gas cap is closed correctly.

gas cap is numero uno on this one chap!

at 187 miles u should be on ur third gas tank or so so u must have filled it and then not tightened the cap enuff. if it is tight, check the tether on the cap. if there isnt a yellow dot on the end of the string....go to a mazda dealer and tell them about the check engine light....there are updated gas caps.....it involves multiple mazda models.....

or the CEL could be literally nothing and a simple reflash will fix it....whatever! hahahaha!

Theres no yellow dot on the string, a previous owner had the car, for 75 miles, didnt know how to drive stick, so he turned it in. I put the rest of the miles on it, still havent filled a gas tank yet, Im almost out, but havent filled yet, so it cant be that. Its just really annoying because my Audi S4 constantly had the check engine light on, I just wanna drive without seeing that ugly yellow light...damn man.

It's seriously probably nothing. Even if the guy didn't know how to drive stick, I don't see how seriuos wear and tear could happen in only 75 miles (he must have been cruising in gear for most of that). Go to the shop........they will be able to do a quick diagnostic and tell you why the light came on (and tell you what steps to take to make sure it doesn't come on again)

Just go try to secure your gas cap

but I have a feeling its the Gas Cap TSB. You can bring it to your Mazda dealer, tell them you have CEL, maybe the Gas Cap TSB. they will replace it for free (its a known issue for 07s)

If she never put any gas in it, I doubt it would be the gas cap. Take it to the dealer tomorrow.

My PB 07 had the same issue at around 500 miles. Took her in, dealer did the free "Mazda passport check" or whatever and replaced the cap assembly. No re-occuring problem since, 4500 miles later. Freaked me out tho! Especially since I always use the three clicks technique.

When I got my car, I had a CEL within a week. I think it was a missfire problem. That was a while ago.

lmao!!! He's so not going to get away w/all the n00b stuff that has slid so far.

Mine went on one day. I called the dealership and set and appt when it was still on the next morning. By the end of that night it went out and I cancelled.

Search the gas cap issue. (tho I can't understand how the f8ck it is still an issue on 06 or 07 models.)

My 07 did the same thing at about 450 miles or so, it was a loose connection somewhere, dealer fixed it no big deal.

Take it in, it will be free and should be quick.

I was actually goin to make a thread like this also... I took my car to a local auto shop and it said the reason the check engine light was on, was because of low voltage...

Can anyone give me any explanation to this?? Thnx

Low Voltage of what ? It will be better if he can tell you the *actual* code, so you can look it up in the service manual.
