Cool Engine starter button option

Ok, I'm a noob to this forum so first off let me say hi & thanks for all the tips, I bless you all with twin turbos and horsepower.
My question is about the engine button starter option, (After you turn the key the button lights up, you press it and the engine starts). I don't think it's on the usa accsesories list but you can get it from Japan.
It is a Mazda RX-8 part but might it void my warrenty in some way?? Even if my dealer fits it?? Where is it installed?? Is there a backup thing incase it becomes disconnected??
If anyone has this option please let me know if it's as cool as it sounds, I mean there's nothings cooler than saying to ya chick, hey baby, press that red button.. Or making MIB jokes about never touch the red button whilst moving..
Anyways, I have to wait until the New year to get my sunlight silver 8 with every possible option known to man on it.
Will the price have gone down by then??
Ok enough questions already, peace out guys.

Personally - I love the Start Button. Here's a link to it in case anyone's wondering:

Start Button from JapanParts

Scroll down and see "Start Button kit" - I just seriously love the look of it. The only thing I wonder about is... it's like an extra step in starting the car. Turn the key (which we already do) and THEN press the start button. Of course, if it didn't tell you to turn the key, you run the risk of having your 8 stolen VERY easily.

Thumbs up Definitely cool

I was interested in getting this option as well but was worried about my warranty and installation. Hopefully someone will help us out with some answers. It seems a little pricey on the Japan auto parts site but I have not seen it abywhere else. I was hoping the price would come down after the novelty of the car has worn off a bit.

I like it but I dont like how you still have to put your key in ignition anyways

I know its for safety but it kinda defeats the purpose

Thumbs up

One site said it takes the place of the coin dispenser, but I don't have my 8 yet so I'm not sure where that is..

There's another thread here somewhere - an RX-8 owner got the Japanese start button. It does fit in place of the coin drawer - on a right hand drive car. He said it does not fit on a left hand drive car (ie US and Canada cars). Modifications would be required to fit it. I also haven't heard if the LHD cars have a connector in the wiring harness for the start button, or if the wiring harness would have to be modified.

Regards,
Gordon
