LOL I'm afraid that I actually don't go trolling the internet looking for girlie pics, possibly making me one of the few males with a high-speed connection who doesn't use it to download ****. Then again, I'm not so tightly-wrapped that I get in a snit about those who do... I support your organization but I think it would be disingenuous of me to actually join it.

Dang, I thought that was the whole reason Al Gore invented the internet.

I'm not that familiar with internet chat etc (this is the first forum i've been active on) so excuse my ignorance on these matters .
But : I can't believe you guys are doubting this - why on earth would anyone bother to make up a story like this ?

That's enough, all of you. Yes, we get a lot of people trolling on here and posting crap just to try to get people worked up. But it's already been made pretty clear this is not the case here. Quit being so incredibly rude. If you have nothing useful to say in this thread, then don't bother posting.

Ok, but people are still free to post useless things on other threads?

Give me time. I took a roll of film at the towing place. I am getting it developed tomorrow, and then I'll have to scan them to get them on the computer. Actually, sympathy isn't what I wanted at first...it was information if this happened before. Then I was met with sarcasm and doubt. Yes, the websites are crappy. But the one about the engine/cooling recall isn't and that's what will be investigated. I DID take it in for the recall, but nothing was done because supposedly the engine was ok. I'm sorry I made you doubt me, I'm sorry I overreacted to you guys (I WAS running off of 8 hours of sleep in 3 days...no excuse, but that did play a roll with me emotionally). I don't need sympathy of strangers, I only wanted answers. The insurance agent has not gone to the tow yard yet. This process is moving slowly, and it's frustrating. I'm not making things up, it was that time period because I have witnesses, and I am about as confused as the rest of you. The only thing I wondered was if there was overheating in the engine, why no light and no smoke??? I don't know. At first it didn't look like foul play, but who knows what the claims will say? I can describe to you that the front side is very messed up, and the fire appears to have gone underneath the car, following the fuel line (maybe, I don't know) to the gas tank where it exploded. THe rear side of the car really doesn't look that bad. The interior does have some damage, with electrical cords hanging down on the driver side front. I didn't SEE the interior when I reported no damage, but I was told I could recover items from my car. Which I could. I recovered everything/all my paperwork from my glove compartment, plus my cell phone charger and a cd's other than the one in the 1 disc cd player. I don't think anything was added, but maybe. I haven't had any work done in a month, so it wasn't a crappy job at the oil change place. Maybe something was missed at the dealership? Any responses?

I am less emotional tday. I just want answers. I absolutely promise that was the time frame. My friend who got her purse was only at the back of the car (things were on both sides). I have questioned/requestioned her repeatedly on what she saw, but she was drinking a lot. She does not smoke, so I don't think she lit my car on fire.

I honest to god just want answers. I don't need sympathy, but i do want respect. I will tell you what the insurance co finds out.

This I do know....worst case scenario, I only owe $1500. Now, if it'ss Mazda's fault, I hope to not have to pay this OR my deductible, but I will be fine. I am sorry I tried to talk to "helpful" RX8 owners...I just thought you all mihgt of heard of other things. Please quit talking about me in disrespectful ways, as I haven't really said anything personal about any of you. I am just a person who would like possible solutions. Thank you in advance. To recap, I will post pics as soon as I can. No camera phone, no digital camera, but i can possibly scan some pics. I will do it asap! I will also keep you updated, so that you all can have yours checked so you don't have to go through this like me! I don't wish this on any of you, even the doubters.

Best of luck with the investigation, and in getting a replacement. Still want another 8, right? Hope this event doesn't turn you away from it...

Did your friend spill her drink on your exhaust tips? Maybe set a drink on the roof, and when she slammed the trunklid, did it spill down the windshield and into the engine compartment??? Just trying to think of something that could have caused it...

I can't think of anything that a person can do to a modern automobile that would accidently set it a fire. I believe interiors are built not to burn from cigarettes. I think you could even spray an engine with gasoline and it wouldn't flame. There had to of been a massive electical short to do this.

Still haven't heard from the insurance. I assume front to back. Because I saw flames in front and the gas explosion came later. That's ok...I just had to have time to get you the proof! I'll have more detailed ones later.

you need to find out if the thermal blanket recall was done... that could have caused it.. unlikely, but it was an issue. good luck..

Nah. If there are fumes around, all it takes is a spark.

Remember the news stories a year or two ago about cars catching fire in gas stations in the winter? It was from the driver getting in while pumping, then getting out to finish & pay when the pump stopped. Static spark when sliding out.

Also, don't forget the warnings of not leaving oiy rags around your garage because of spontaneous combustion.

I doubt if a static spark oily rag caused this fire, but there are lots of things that could have. If fires were that hard to start, we wouldn't need nearly as many firehouses.

Cool Area....

That's awful.

The area at the front where it started seems to be right above the sparkplugs - where the fuel rail is.......

Ahh! So that's how long it would take before someone tried to get parts!

Can you have a gas leak for awhile before it catches on fire? (this may be a dumb question). If it could only take a spark, could it have been from hitting the trunk button (electrical) with a gas leak? (another dumb question). Because one of the recalls said that the engine/coolign system could cause a gas leak, and a fire. I got it looked at, but I am just wondering if it's a possibility?

Oh, I wanted to answer the location question. I live in St Peters, MO. I take it to the dealership that I live next to.

It's possible. I've had gas leaks (not in my RX-8) but thankfully smelled them in time to take action.

I'm verry sorry to hear about your loss and also sorry you got flamed. Most of all I'm glad no one was hurt. It looks like you're accepted here now. I hope your insurance company investigates this, I believe a trained investigator doing a thorough investigation would be able to explain this. Anything else on this board or elsewhere is pure speculation.

And, I hope you get another RX-8. Good luck.
