Exclamation ECU will increase HP - Pre programmed

All,,,

I heard rummors that the 8's ECU will eventually excecute a different software code once a centain millage mark (typically 15k to 20k) is reached..... The ECU will unleash the full rated HP (238-250 HP) originally intended.
It is said that the ECU is pre-programed this way on purpose in order to provide a good break in period for the engine by limiting the output power when the engine is new.....

Any of you heard something like this before???

thats because thats when the engine gets well broken in. i have a JDM 247hp and it seems faster now than two years ago.but i don think it increased any hp. heck it does not even feel its 247 hp. And I own a evo ix and a 350z and honestly the rx8 does not feel it has 247hp but it drives so much better than either of the two. Although the evo ix is a whole different breed so cant really compare with that.....

I could be wrong....but i thought this was mentioned in a article that had a long term review of the 8, possibly R&T, Motortrend, etc. But i thought i read that they said after so many miles, they never said specifically , that there 8 was a tad bit faster then when they took ownership of it new.

car and driver

http://www.caranddriver.com/longroad...x-8-page4.html

Performance new 40,000
Zero to 60 mph 6.6 sec 5.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph 17.5 sec 16.0 sec
Zero to 130 mph 36.6 sec 34.8 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph 7.4 sec 7.2 sec
Standing 1/4-mile 15.1 sec 14.6 sec
@ 93 mph @ 96 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph 153 ft 145 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad — 0.88 g
Top speed (drag limited) 144 mph 145 mph
seems more like a driver difference than automagically released power at xx,000 miles.

The issue is torque more than horsepower and it is what it is.

also, i bet they had new (maby even different) tires, brakes, fluids, ect. By the time you hit 40k miles in this car, if you have done all the service, a lot has changed.

i thought the rumor was generated from something from the fd. i thought someone had posted a page from the owner's or service manual that said there was a swich at 15k miles. that was a long time ago though.

no sure what all was change/replaced, they in the article they said that they switched to Yokohama Advan Neova AD07s at 30k miles when the potenzas wore out. so, any changes such as that could definately a pretty sizeable impact.

So could shift points, etc...My old car went from 101mph traps to 105+mph traps based on me learning to 'get to 4th gear' quicker, and riding it out - rather than redlining every gear.

Not sure how a different driver could make some of those changes, such as a faster top speed. Tires would not effect that either... Or the 5-60. (although that could be driver if one uses the clutch at 5mph.)

The driver can make a big diffrence as well as well as tires. Tires have diffrent compounds that could cause more or less friction drag when contact is made with the road. Less friction drag, lighter weight tire will result in quicker off the line starts and over all faster acceleration to achieve a better top end. There has been several articles from compact sport magazine , motortrend that had tire test results that they used on stock vehicles. Within 5 diffrent tires on there stock vehicle(v6 honda accord) 3 out of the 5 tires when equipped proved to show faster times than the stock tires, and the other two tires they tested. I will try and find the article for you or you can look it up on the internet.

It's the extra carbon build-up on the rotor faces... Makes each rotor weigh more, giving better torque! <joking> :D
