Of course, if this was an apples to apples comparison, we wouldn't be talking about a sports car with an econobox to begin with.

srt4 is considered a base model after 03.... so the base model srt4 (it was not technically a neon) has a 2.4l motor and a turbo. Apples to apples the srt4 is considered a sports car.

It's okay, in the end "you just got beet by a NEON!"

seriously.. lets think about it... when you accelerate weight transfer to the back of the car and off the front of the car. and you want to put your accelerating tires where?

it's true, but fwd cars make up for in in less drivetrain loss and lighter weight, they also generally outperform in special condition races, ie rally and wet.

edit: anyways, mazda obviously liked srt4's or else they wouldn't have copied it.

Given that Checksum is new here, I'll give him a break. He doesn't understand that cheap and fast aren't things the RX-8 folk give highest priority.

Talking up the Neon is like my wife trying to talk to me about bread making. "Uh huh. That's nice Honey."

I'd rather drive a base Camry than become the boy racer who got a loan for $15k.

funny, thats what I was thinking about most of the people who have responded to this thread. Wanna-B boy racers (who have probably never set foot on a racetrack) with big mouths and nothing to back it up. Up until I posted this thread everyone I had talked to from these forums had been a pleasure to talk to. Guess the real assholes, idiots, and shittalkers only show up in the general section. I would love it if a moderator would move this thread to the dyno results section, or the nw section, or anywhere but this lounge of filth. Hell lock and delete for all I care, I will repost where the OP is appreciated.

Like I said, if you talk up the Neon and try to convince us it's a great car, you're going to meet some strong resistance. Most of us bought the Rx-8 when it was new. I paid 31k for mine, and it's one of the cheapest vehicles I've owned. At that price point, we're talking Evos and other higher end vehicles (if one was assumed to be interested in an econobox with power). A neon is not something most here would find even slightly interesting.

I don't disagree with you at all on that statement. I just don't appreciate posting up about how impressed I was with my new car and getting flamed for what I cloose to spend my money on. I chose to buy an srt-4, I love the srt-4, you don't which is fine. Just keep your opinions out of my thread unless they pertain to the OP. The end.

Ahh. I came into this in the middle. Looking over your original posts I see you didn't start up with the RX-8 vs SRT stuff, so I guess I have nothing to argue with you about :)

My rx8 is a fun to drive street car, not a race car. Poke fun at srt-4's all you want but remember it would take thousands of dollars in mods to make an rx8 run in a quarter mile what a srt-4 runs stock. It would take almost no money at all (sways and co's) to make an srt-4 lap a stock rx8 around a autoX or road coarse. They weigh almost exactly the same, SRT-4 is front bias but it's fwd, it has almost no turbo lag in stock trim and comes from the factory with 230whp and a limited slip diff (all but 03 models). It is however, not nearly as fun to drive. Full build racecar against full built racecar the rx8 would probably do better overall, but for a significantly higher price tag. The factory block and transmission in the srt4 are good to 400whp all day long. For under $30,000 you could have bought a brand new srt-4 and given it 400whp, coilovers, and supporting mods, most still covered under the Dodge factory warranty. (Mopar performance upgrades) Then walk all over ANY other sub $30k racecar in any trim on any track. As well as most $50k racecars. It's like strapping a rocketbooster to a garbage can! Hang on, this is going to be fun!

All that said, I love my rx8 so please stop flaming.

Not really trying to get into this my car is cooler then your car discussion because it goes absolutely nowhere but just a few points to debunk...

I have beaten a modified 340hp+ Evo 9 on R's at an EMRA Time Trial on Summit Points Shenandoah course also.

I paid $24k for my Touring RX8 in 2005 not $30k. A Base could of been had for $21k.

The MS 3 will kill the SRT4 on the strip and track... and sadly enough a freak'n Cobolt would kill us both on the drag strip :banghead:

I will give you this your car will take an 8 in a str8 line :) stock for stock but will not even come close on any road course. I time trial and auto x and I still have not found any SRT4's that will come close to my N/A RX8 on the track.

As for your warranty comment, Dodge only warrantied the turbo for one year on the stock car and if you go up in stages they voided the entire powertrain warranty. Mazda stands behind there products for the entire powertrain warranty and even endorses all forms of racing.

Funny, then how did my friend get a new motor (and turbo) when he blew his stage3 mis-shifting? All under warranty. Dealer determines warranty claim, not dodge itself.

as for ms3, I have yet to see a slip of a BONE stock ms3 running a 13.4 quarter. The only reason Cobalts are fast is r&d from interested companies. If as much aftermarket r&d time and money went into any car as the cobalt it should fly.

anyways, please stay on topic.

Your last comment makes it seem that Mazda wlll let you keep your warranty if you track the car. That's false. While, if you have a good relationship with your dealer, they will let you warranty issues that come up on the track, the official stance is that participating in competitive events (racing) voids your warranty. And even if you do a non-timed HPDE, they can still argue for off-road use or abuse.

Also, if you get aftermarket products, such as a Mazdaspeed CAI, the parts themselves are covered for 1 year/12K (either blue or green Mazdaspeed warranties) and not till the end of the powertrain warranty. Furthermore, there's been at least one incident here on the forum, where a member had the dealership install a Mazdaspeed CAI and then had a problem with the powertrain. The dealership insisted that the factory warranty was voided because of the aftermarket part installed and that the Mazdaspeed warranty is only on the part itself.

So all I'm saying is that Mazda is no warranty angel and, while they may have you autocross brand new Mazdaspeed6's at Zoom-Zoom-Live, they can void your warranty when you attempt to do the same with your car.

But you could have taken a WRX and done even better with better handling then a SRT-4(Neon). The fact remains that some people don't like the Boy racer image and even those who do view the STR-4 as bottom ruin on that latter. Not trying to be mean just expressing how the world views this car. In the high horse power econ box area (which the RX does not play in) there are better cars out there.

LOL, an 8 on the bottle wouldnt even come close to a 123mph trap.

Lay off people, its a purpose built SRT4 that is fast, get over it. You have to see the beauty in a car that runs 11's, whether it be a 4 cyl or otherwise, that is fast.

Agreed. LOL. Anytime a another car (no matter how different or unrelated) is mentioned (and it was just in the OP's sig, lol) it turns into a brutal comparo. I think we need a new section just for RX-8 compared to __________, enter at your own risk. Good dyno numbers.

yeah, the worst part is I never said that the srt was better than the rx8. It is faster in certain areas, sure but that doesn't make it better. You can purpose build anything, be it a Geo or a Porche; the reason I chose the srt-4 was because of the stoutness of its base components. To make a Geo run 300whp you would pretty much have to overhaul everything and probably end up swapping in a totally different motor. To make a srt4 run 300whp all you really need is a map clamp, screen-door spring, and an exhaust. You could get all that for under $500!

here is my opinion on cars with 11 (or better) second potential:
STi's are expensive and difficult to mod they also break pistons and rear ends early on
wrx's have horrible trannys and rear end's
Evo's have bad clutches (and are very difficult to replace) although I would probably buy one if I ever gave up on the srt-4
Supra's are great but very hard to find and generally extremely overpriced
Mustangs (and all other v8's) are just not my thing
DSM's are super heavy and have tranny issues
Hondas..... yeah....
Skyline - same as Supra issue, except even harder to find, parts are also very hard to find and expensive.
SRT-4 - stout motor, can make 450hp on stock internals, trannys hold up as long as motor does, parts are cheep and easy to come by, no maf, lighter than anything mentioned above short of a honda, and can easily spool a very large turbo

Anyways, for an out of the box track car I have found nothing that really compares to the rx8. (without spending 50k+) Which is why I bought one.

dozer 06-10-2008 10:36 AM

^well said....NOW..........congrats on the numbers

i'd like to say shut the hell up to the 8 fanbois here talking smack against an 11 sec car thats purpose is the 1/4 mile... there is not a single 8 on this board with a renny in it that can come within a second of that neon

really people, its embarrassing.... :eyetwitch
